Who else hates bug season?

Washing the ambulances is important for us to maintain a professional looking fleet, and keeping those dastardly bugs and wintertime salt slurry off our trucks.

Congratulations to our very own Jillian McLaughlin for being recognized as ALS Provider of the Year by Vermont EMS. It’s very well deserved!

Congratulations to Jillian McLaughlin, our ALS practitioner of the year! Jillian has worked for Lyndon Rescue for nearly 20 years, and throughout her time, has inspired many practitioners to further their education through high quality training, acting as a mentor, and exhibiting a calm demeanor throughout all sorts of tribulations. Jillian served in various roles for Lyndon Rescue, but recently stepped down from the Director of Operations and assumed the title of Training Officer. She has spearheaded agency efforts to become a Pediatric Safe organization, and focused trainings to delve into pediatric topics and uplifting newer providers. Jillian has inspired several practitioners to gain higher levels of certification by being able to do her clinical practice effortlessly.

We try to get this training in with our partners at East Burke Fire Brigade annually as we gear up for summer recreational season. Caring for the Kingdom takes many forms, and working well other agencies is an important aspect of achieving that mission.

Thanks to Chief Willey and his crew for putting on another great training. It was good to see how the litter was used on a single track trail, and how sometimes you have to adapt to unforeseen challenges.

Happy EMS Week to our EMS professionals, who day-in and day-out do their best to Care for the Kingdom.

While we don’t have a ton of crew pictures as many are camera shy, it’s a testament that they do prehospital emergency care for the love of the job, and not for the glory.

We also want to recognize the other agencies we collaborate with in VT EMS District 5, including Newark, VT Volunteer Fire Dept, Inc, Calex Ambulance Service, St. Johnsbury Fire Department, and beyond. We also salute our neighbors at Glover Ambulance Squad, Inc, Orleans Ambulance Service, and Newport Ambulance Service who come to our aid when we need it.

Lastly, thank you to our Board of Directors for the thoughtfulness and support in keeping our mission going and our crews supported. We also thank them for the cupcakes! 🧁

May 17 - 23 is National EMS Week, honoring EMTs, paramedics, and emergency medical personnel for their lifesaving service. The theme this year is "Improving Outcomes, Together," a perfect summary of how NVRH partners with our local emergency service providers.

"In the Northeast Kingdom, the distances are real, and the winters are long," says NVRH emergency physician Dr. Robert J. Grant. "When someone calls 911, it’s often a volunteer neighbor — an EMT or first responder — who shows up first. Then our ambulance crews arrive, take over the medical care, and stay with that patient all the way to our door. As a long-time emergency physician, I’ve seen what that dedication means. These are neighbors taking care of their neighbors. We are lucky to have them, and we are better because of them."

Alissa Fontaine, Emergency Management Coordinator at NVRH, appreciates the close-knit teamwork of local EMS. “My career in emergency management and hospital preparedness started in EMS, so these ambulance and first response agencies have a special place in my heart. Every one of these people plays an essential role in caring for our community, on rainy days, snowy days, holidays and weekends, whether they're out in the field or in the hospital. I see what an impact this work has and I'm so thankful."

We thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance, including Lyndonville Fire Department, Lyndonville Police Department, Calex Ambulance Service, and Vermont State Police. Also thanks to the willingness of St. Johnsbury Fire Department to respond as well. Thank you also goes out to our off-duty crewmembers that responded with our third ambulance.

Interagency collaboration resulted in the successful extrication, treatment, and transport of all the patients.

Seatbelts and child passenger restraints prevented significant injuries for a few of the occupants, and should be highlighted as an important safety reminder.
