There's always an opportunity to get better and prepare for the unforeseen, and that's what members of the Lynn Haven Fire Rescue team spent the past few days doing.

Our crews completed the USLA Personal Watercraft Rescue Operator course, training for several different water-rescue situations involving both conscious and unconscious victims. They also practiced rescues with one- and two-person PWC teams. The Personal Watercraft Rescue Operator certification course involved both written and physical testing, and all team members passed.

It’s the kind of training we hope they never have to use... but if someone finds themselves in trouble on the water, we know our crews are ready.

🚒🌊 Trading bunker gear for some time in the water!

This week, members of Lynn Haven Fire Rescue had the opportunity to step away from the firehouse and sharpen another critical skill—water rescue.

Our crews are working toward certification through the USLA PWC (Personal Watercraft) course, learning the skills needed to safely and effectively respond when someone is in trouble on the water. Our Firefighters mastered various water-rescue scenarios, including single- and two-operator victim rescues for conscious and unconscious victims. All members passed both the written and physical portions of the test to become Personal Watercraft Rescue Operators.

Training like this prepares us for the calls we hope never happen—but when they do, we want our crews ready.

Different gear. Different environment. Same mission: Serve, protect, and bring people home. 🇺🇸🚒

On 8/05/2026, Probationary FF Marcum utilized his thermal imaging camera to locate simulated "hot spots" throughout a low-visibility environment. The final "hot spot" was where he located his Firefighter shield, signifying the successful completion of his one-year probationary period. Congratulations to Firefighter Marcum!

On July 23, 2026, Lynn Haven Fire Rescue personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive individual. Through the rapid response, professionalism, and exceptional teamwork of Lynn Haven Fire Rescue, Bay County EMS, and the dedicated Bay County Dispatchers, extensive CPR and other advanced life-saving measures were initiated immediately upon arrival.

The successful outcome of this incident reflects the importance of quick emergency response, ongoing training, and seamless coordination among all responding agencies. Every member involved played a critical role in providing the highest level of care possible.

Today, we are grateful to share that the individual is home with their family and on the road to recovery. This outcome is a testament to the commitment and dedication of our dispatchers, firefighters, paramedics, and EMS professionals who work tirelessly every day to serve our community.

Lynn Haven Fire Rescue extends its appreciation to Bay County EMS and Bay County Dispatch for their outstanding partnership and unwavering commitment to saving lives. Incidents like this demonstrate the remarkable difference that preparedness, teamwork, and rapid action can make when every second counts.

🚦 Back-to-School Traffic Alert-Monday, August 10, 2026 🚦

School will be back in session, and traffic volumes are expected to increase, especially during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.

✅ Leave a little earlier
✅ Expect delays near schools
✅ Watch for school buses and crossing guards
✅ Slow down and stay alert in school zones

Please allow extra time for your commute during the first few weeks of school as students and families settle into their routines.

Let's make safety our top priority. 🚸

🚸 Back-to-School Driver Safety

Slow Down. Stay Alert. Protect Our Children.

School is back in session, and thousands of Florida students will be walking and biking to and from school each day. Drivers play a critical role in keeping our children safe.

Florida law requires drivers to obey posted school zone speed limits, which are typically 15 to 20 mph during designated school hours. School zone speed limits may not exceed 20 mph in urbanized areas.

When approaching a school zone:

✅ Slow down and obey all posted speed limits.

✅ Watch for children crossing streets, boarding buses, and riding bicycles.

✅ Stop for pedestrians in crosswalks and follow directions from school crossing guards.

✅ Put away distractions and keep your full attention on the road.

✅ Be prepared to stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm.

Every child deserves to arrive at school safely and return home safely. A few extra seconds of caution can save a life.

Empower your children with these School Bus Safety Tips!

• Arrive at the bus stop about five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive, and start their day with a sense of responsibility!
• At bus stops, encourage kids to wait in a safe place away from the road, where they can shine with confidence!
• Make sure your children know their bus driver's name and bus number, and help them build a connection with their bus community!
• Teach children the importance of staying safe and aware at the bus stop, and remind them never to speak to strangers or get into a car with someone they don't know; if a stranger approaches, they should confidently tell parents, the bus driver, and a teacher at school.
• Children should never walk behind a bus and should stay away from bus wheels at all times; when the bus stops, they should wait for the driver's signal that it's safe to cross the road or board the bus, and celebrate their patience!
• Children should look both ways before crossing the street - look left, right, and left again - and make eye contact to ensure the bus driver can see them as they cross the street, and feel proud of their attention to detail!
• On the bus, children should remain seated at all times and keep the aisle clear, and enjoy the ride while staying safe!
• Remind children to stop talking and remain silent when the bus comes to a railroad crossing, so the driver can hear if a train is approaching, and appreciate the importance of being quiet and respectful.
• Children should avoid loud or disruptive behavior that could distract the bus driver from safely operating the bus, and instead, spread positivity and kindness on their daily commute! 🚌💕

As students head back to school, let's work together to keep everyone safe.

🚶 Walk Smart

Use sidewalks whenever possible.
Cross only at marked crosswalks.
Look left, right, and left again before crossing.
Stay alert and avoid distractions like phones or headphones.

🚲 Bike Safe

Always wear a properly fitted helmet.
Ride on the right side of the road and obey traffic signs.
Use hand signals to let others know where you're going.
Make sure your bike has working lights and reflectors.

🚗 Drivers, please slow down in school zones, watch for children, and stop for crossing guards.

A few extra moments of caution can help every student arrive safely to and from school.
