🌱 Growing more than a garden at Meadowdale High School!

A new garden at MHS is helping students grow fruits and vegetables while cultivating community, wellness, and hands-on learning.

Created by a team of dedicated staff members and supported through donations from local businesses, the garden gives students opportunities to learn where food comes from, explore sustainable gardening practices, and connect science, nutrition, and environmental stewardship to real-world experiences.

Students in the Gardening Club help plant, maintain, and harvest the garden, while work experience students care for their own garden beds and assist with watering and planting.

The long-term vision is to create a lasting resource for the school community that promotes healthy living, sustainability, and the joy of growing and sharing a harvest together.

Great work, Mavericks! πŸŒΏπŸ…πŸ₯•

πŸ“Š Thank you to the families and students who participated in the Edmonds School District Family Survey this spring!

This year's survey achieved a 51% response rate, a 2% increase from 2024, providing valuable feedback that helps shape school improvement efforts across our district.

Congratulations to the schools with the highest family participation rates:
πŸ† Martha Lake Elementary
πŸ† College Place Middle School
πŸ† Mountlake Terrace High School

The survey gathers feedback on family engagement, communication, school climate, family confidence, and language access. Schools use the results, along with follow-up focus groups, to better understand family experiences and guide future planning.

πŸŽ™οΈMembers of Scriber Lake High School's Latino Student Union recently visited the Sea Mar Museum of Chicano/a/Latino/a Culture and El Rey 1360AM radio station.

Students explored the museum through a scavenger hunt before learning firsthand about careers in radio communications, the future of digital media, and the important role Spanish-language radio plays in connecting communities with information and resources.

During their visit, students met radio professionals, toured the recording studio, and even shared what they appreciate most about Scriber Lake High School and their goals for the future.

The field trip helps students explore career pathways, higher education opportunities, and ways they can become leaders and voices within the Latino community.

Students at Alderwood Middle School recently showcased their research, writing, and presentation skills through a cross-curricular project that brought together English, Social Studies, Special Education, Multilingual Learner, and Library staff.

Students researched real-world issues including wildfires, affordable housing, public transit, Southern Resident orcas, preserving Native American culture, and the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. They then collaborated with classmates to create informational posters, write argumentative essays supported by evidence, and produce persuasive videos promoting solutions to these challenges.

Beyond building research and writing skills, the project created opportunities for students to learn from one another and share their work with the entire school community.

"My favorite part is the day after we hang up the posters," said teacher Emily Ancharski. "Students gather in the flex area and show off which one they did. It brings a sense of community to the building."

Great work, AMS students and staff!
