My leadership perspective
There are a lot of leadership styles and we often run into situations throughout our lives that require leader mentality to go through it. We are the leaders of now and the future. Therefore, it’s important to understand and know how to evaluate your good leadership talents. John C Maxwell defines leadership as follows, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” The leader is someone that makes difference with his followers, this differences deciphered to success and failure. So how are you as good leader, and what would determine your success and failure? Good leaders are not necessarily good Christians, however, we are here to learn and review how to be a good leaders because you’re good Christians and if we put the two together we can start performing miracles.
10 things to be a good leader.
1. Honesty and Integrity (Ethics)
Without integrity there will be no true success possible. No matter where you are church, work, or home if you’re not honest and faithful in what you’re doing you will be not truly successful, you may succeed without honesty but not for long you’ll be proven as a fraud.
2. Confidence
Leader should never say “I can’t” to be an effective leader, you must be confident of what you’re doing, so others be confident in you and follow your command. Likewise, if you are unsure of your decisions your subordinates will not trust to follow along.
3. Inspire others
Leader is the light at one end of the fiberglass that runs through and shines at the other end of the wire. Leader is to persuade others to follow, the best way to persuade is to set a good example of the plan should be. When the situation gets tough the subordinates look up to the leader to obtain affirmative feeling, therefore it’s important for a leader to think and react positive and the positive approach will help will make them follow. Leaders should be calm under pressure and keep motivation level up. So if your actions makes the team around you inspired and hopeful you’ll become a great leader.
4. Commitment and Passion
Leaders must be passionate about what they believe in. when your team see you getting your hands dirty they will give you their best shot. If they feel your unattached they will lose motivation and they will not be able to achieve their goal.
5. Good Communicator.
Good leaders communicate the goals clearly and are able to deliver the goals and the plan to their team. If a leader failed to do so, it will be very difficult for him/her to get envisioned results. Words have the power to motivate and push people to do the unthinkable.
6. Decision-Making
Leader is capable of making decisions along the way because of their futuristic vision, leader should be able to take decisions that supports. Leaders’ decisions makes big impacts on the organization. One common mistakes by most leaders is to take a decision without consulting the key stakeholders before, so the decision becomes an opinion and have consequences that may need further discussions.
7. Accountability
A good leader takes the blame more than his team however, he will give the credit to his team. Moreover, he makes sure everyone in this team is accountable for what they are doing, if they do good he/she will support them, but if they struggles, the leader should make them realize their mistakes working with them to learn and develop toward improvement. This will create a sense of responsibility and seriousness.
8. Delegation and Empowerment.
Most common mistake often leaders make is forgetting to delegate tasks to their subordinates, consequently, they fall behind on delivering results. Delegating your team members will empower them and invest in their development. Micromanagement is the contradiction of empowerment. If you trust in your team you’ll make leaders out of them, who would bear the responsibility, but if you didn’t you’ll make them followers who will only do what they’re told.
9. Creativity and Innovation
Steve Jobs once was asked “What separates a leader from a follower?” he said “innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” It’s important to change the routine in service, in thoughts, and spiritual life. Being creative in coming up with new plans and new ways of doing things give a refreshing environment, and strength. Creative thinking and continuous innovation will make the Team grow.
10. Empathy
Unfortunately the understanding of the leadership in most of the mindsets goes toward the dictatorial style and neglecting empathy altogether. The strong leader with his positive attitude leads the way creating empathy with his team because that how he/she makes connections with everyone, because through empathy the leader will understand the problems and feel the pain. Leaders that develop empathy with their team are effective leaders.
The above ten characteristics are the most important to be a good leader. Lacking any of the ten characteristics will cause you to struggle in the leadership world. You must be committed, passionate, honest, and feel for your people, so that you get them to follow your lead. Success and failure will depend upon communicating goals, objectives, ideas, and making decisions. Lastly, innovation and futuristic vision are the key to your team’s growth and your developments.
