Seed library restocked! Thanks to our trusty volunteers for keeping the seeds stocked.

Time to get your beans in the ground! Be sure to read the label and make a note about trellising needs. Some beans are bush beans and will grow without support, some are pole beans, meaning they need a pole or something to climb. 🙂

What are you planting now?

Just restocked! Time to get your squash and bean seeds for direct seeding around the first part of May! Melons a bit later depending on temps. I like to start my cucumbers, squash, melons, and sunflowers in newspaper pots in the house about two weeks before planting time. Newspaper pots are so easy to make and are free. Comment below if you would like me to send you info on how to make them.

If you get some seeds you’re excited about please tag us and let us know how they do. We would love to see what everyone is growing from the seed library.

The Lynnwood Seed Library is proud to support other local organizations with the donation of garden seeds! Washington West African Center grows food for the community and offers garden plots at Grace Lutheran Church in Mukilteo so more folks have access to grow their own fresh food.

“This garden is more than just plants—it’s about reclaiming tradition, promoting wellness, and building community. Whether you’re a seasoned elder who misses farming back home, a newly arrived migrant ready to learn, or a youth eager to get your hands dirty—we’ve got a garden bed waiting for you!”

We just got a great donation from Seed Savers Exchange! Some really fun stuff to try growing. We just restocked the seed library and it’s time to get planting. Thank you so much Seed Savers Exchange!

If you haven’t heard of Seed Savers Exchange it’s a fantastic organization with a great mission:

Just refilled the seeds at the seed library with some interesting varieties!

🍅 It’s not too late to seed some tomatoes indoors, especially cherry size varieties. 🍅

Have you tried growing tomatillos? You need two plants for cross pollination and fruiting. Tomatillos need to be started indoors, just like tomatoes, under lights until night temps are consistently over 50. Makes a yummy salsa verde! 💃

And, bean season is approaching soon so be sure to pick some up too! Pay attention to whether they are pole beans (need a pole to climb) or bush beans. There are also dry beans versus snap or green beans. So many choices! 🫘

Be sure to tell your neighbors and friends about the seed library or bring them with you. It would be great to hear about your visit and see what you got. Please comment below or tag us if you post about it!

Thank you to everyone who came to the seed swap and helped to make it all happen! It was such a wonderful afternoon sharing seeds and gardening stories. We had almost 200 folks join us and 15 amazing volunteers. Thank you to all the volunteers who make this event possible!

Here’s who we all have to thank for making this day happen:

The Lynnwood Library & Julia McConnell, librarian extraordinaire, who helps to organize this event and the seed library

Friends of the Lynnwood Library - sponsors the swap, providing seed envelopes, and more!

Marni at Growing Roots Together Event organizer, donation of seeds and raffle prizes

Alderwood Garden Club - event sponsors, providing seeds and volunteer support, and hand made raffle prizes

Verdant Health Commission - Seeds and event sponsorship, plus volunteering at our welcome table!

If you missed the swap there’s still plenty of seeds available at the Lynnwood Library seed library! The seed library is open year-round and is located in the middle of the library.

Happy gardening! And remember to Plant Enough to Share - local food banks LOVE getting donations of fresh, garden grown produce.

We also have so many generous seed donors to recognize that I can’t fit them all into this post so stay tuned for my next post to thank all
