Lyons Residents: One statement that we are getting from the Lyons community is they are afraid they are not going to get police response if you call the Lyons Police Department due to employee shortage. The Rice County Sheriffs Department has a MOU with the City of Lyons to help cover the shortage. We are working to get back to full staff again, it is just taking some time. I want to reassure you that if you call you will get Law Enforcement response from either the Lyons Police Department or the Rice County Sheriffs Department.
Residents are also asking if they need to call the Sheriffs Department directly to get a response. The answer is “no.” There is no need to call the sheriffs department directly. All Law Enforcement in Rice County use a central dispatching center through Rice County Communications. The Lyons Police Department’s phone number is 620-257-2355 and it is forwarded to Rice County Communications. You have to let it ring 3 times before it is transferred. If you call our number, someone will answer even if no one is in our office and they will give the call to the officer on duty.
You can also call 620-257-2363 for a direct number for Rice County Communications for non-emergencies.
For all emergencies dial 911. You will be answered by emergency services for all of Rice County. The Lyons Police Department does not have its own dispatch center as we also have a MOU with Rice County Communications.
Please let us know if you have any complaints or if you have any further questions.
Thank you for your support.
