We're excited to welcome Sparky the Fire Dog to the Higgston Fire family!
A huge thank you to City of Lyons Fire Dept for donating Sparky to our department. Sparky is a strong advocate for fire prevention and will help us educate our community on the importance of fire safety.
You'll soon see Sparky visiting schools, libraries, and community events, where he'll be sharing fire safety tips and helping teach children and families how to stay safe.
We look forward to seeing everyone out in the community with Sparky as we continue promoting fire prevention and public safety!

Effective immediately, the Open Burning Ban issued by the City of Lyons on April 21, 2026 has been lifted. The extremely dangerous fire conditions previously present in our area have been minimized by recent rains.

Although the strict open burning ban has been lifted, the City urges everyone to exercise extreme caution while using fire. The City of Lyons further wishes to remind citizens that residents who have an active water meter can take advantage of the City's Yard Debris and Mixed Materials pickup program.

For more information, please refer to www.lyonsga.gov under the services tab for more information. This service is intended to offer an alternative to the burning of yard debris that is more friendly to your neighbors, especially those affected by poor air quality and smoke.

All citizens are encouraged to use the City's debris removal service during this emergency ban.

Be reminded: burning the following materials is strictly illegal at any time of year, and violations will not be tolerated.

• Tires and rubber
• Grease and Asphalt products
• Petroleum products and hazardous wastes
• Furniture and mattresses
• Building and demolition debris
• Animal wastes or carcasses
