Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness gave us the freedoms we enjoy each day.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday and remember those who gave everything for our nation.

From all of us at Altamaha EMC/Fiber, we extend our gratitude to the heroes who served and especially to those who never made it home.

Close blinds or curtains during the hottest part of the day to keep the sun from heating your home. This simple step can help your air conditioner work less, which helps you save energy.

Use smaller appliances, like slow cookers or air fryers instead of the oven on hot days. Cooking indoors can heat up your home, making your air conditioner work harder.

Have you checked your air filter lately? A clean air filter helps your system run more efficiently and keeps cool air flowing. Check your filter monthly during the summer and replace it when it’s dirty.

In May, we recognize National Electrical Safety Month to raise awareness about reducing electrically related fires, injuries and fatalities. Here are a few important safety tips to keep in mind:

• Never use electrical equipment near water.
• Check all light bulbs to ensure the wattage is safe and suitable for the fixture.
• Extension cords are for temporary use only; never run them under rugs, through walls or across doorways.
• Do not plug too many devices into a single outlet or power strip.
