Community Update: PRV Work & Road Closure

As part of the current Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) work near Circle K, Town crews will be flushing a hydrant tomorrow, August 20. Residents in Lyons Valley Park and Stone Canyon may temporarily notice some discoloration or brown water.

Hydrant flushing can stir up naturally occurring minerals and sediment that settle in water lines, causing temporary discoloration. If you notice discolored water, run cold water from a faucet for several minutes until it runs clear. Avoid running hot water or doing laundry until the water is clear.

๐Ÿšง Road Closure: Railroad Avenue between Walt Self and 4th Avenue will also be closed tomorrow.

Thank you for your patience while this work is underway.

Hey Lyons,
Quick reminder that 911 is for emergencies. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office has notified the town that Lyons residents are calling 911 for roofing contractors in their neighborhoods.

Please note that the Town has issued nearly 50 permits for roofing contractors. A permitted contractor will have a permit issued by Clerk Vasquez, with her signature and business card attached. Do not call 911. Instead, put a sign up: โ€œNo Solicitorsโ€. Clerk Vasquez has told each one of them that if a house has that sign, they are NOT to make contact.
We will also be posting the video webinar from earlier today with suggestions to consider regarding roof replacement and roof permits. Thank you.

07/30/2026

Hello Lyons,
We wanted to give you some background as to why we made the decision to cancel the Colorado Day Wheels Parade that was originally planned for this Saturday, August 1, at Bohn Park. We included the cancellation in our community wide eblast yesterday.

We wanted to clear up any confusion. While we're disappointed, we don't feel the event received the level of outreach and promotion needed for a successful event. With staff vacations and scheduled PTO over the past several weeks, we did not dedicate the time needed to build community awareness. We also received no inquiries, requests, or other indications that residents were planning to attend.

August is also an exceptionally busy month for both the community and Town staff, with National Night Out this Tuesday, two more Sandstone Summer Concerts, Lights Off Lyons, and the Lyons Hootenanny, all taking place alongside RockyGrass, Folks Festival, and this week's flooding and hail impacts. Given those competing priorities, we felt it was better to cancel now rather than hold an event that would likely have very limited participation.

We're disappointed to make this decision, but we believe it's the right one under the circumstances. We appreciate your understanding and remain focused on delivering a successful lineup of community events throughout August. We hope to see you at some or all of them.
