🌳 Want to see something cool? 🌳

Graham with the Nebraska Forest Service has officially begun identifying and mapping Lyons' street and park trees in TreePlotter!

Over the next couple of weeks, you may see Graham and John with PlantNebraska walking around town collecting information on our trees. Creating this inventory will provide the City with a valuable tool to better manage our community forest by helping us:

🌿 Monitor tree health and condition
🌿 Identify gaps in our tree canopy
🌿 Track tree species, size, and location
🌿 Better plan future tree planting and long-term maintenance..and more!

As part of our Urban Canopy Recovery Project, TreePlotter will also help us determine which tree species are best suited for the locations where trees have been removed, allowing us to replant a healthier, more diverse, and resilient tree canopy.

Curious to see what they've mapped? Visit TreePlotter at:

While the public version doesn't include all of the data, it's still fun to explore! You can even view tree inventories from other Nebraska communities.

Our partnership with the Nebraska Forest Service and PlantNebraska has been instrumental in advancing and expanding our community forestry efforts. Their expertise, guidance, and ongoing support have helped Lyons make tremendous progress in caring for our trees and planning for the future. We are incredibly grateful for everything they have done—and continue to do—to help us build a healthier, greener community. 🌳💚

🚰 Voluntary Water Conservation Requested 🚰

The City of Lyons is asking all residents and businesses to help conserve water.

Due to an extended period of dry weather and significantly higher-than-normal water usage, our water system is experiencing increased demand. At this time, there are no mandatory water restrictions in place, but we are asking everyone to voluntarily reduce water use whenever possible.

Here are a few easy ways you can help:
💧 Water lawns only if necessary, and only during the early morning or evening hours.
💧 Delay washing vehicles, driveways, and sidewalks.
💧 Postpone filling swimming pools or other large water uses.
💧 Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
💧 Fix leaking faucets, toilets, and hoses.
💧 Turn off the water while brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing dishes.

Every gallon saved helps reduce demand on our water system and helps ensure there is enough water available for essential needs and fire protection.

If water consumption continues at its current pace and dry conditions persist, the City may have no choice but to implement mandatory water conservation measures. We hope to avoid that, and with everyone's help, we can.

Thank you for working together to protect one of our community's most valuable resources. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Waste Connections customers can rest easy—we are operating on our regular schedule all week long. There will be NO service delays, so please have your cart out the night before or by 5:00am on your normal scheduled pickup day.
🎆 No Delay Due to July 4th
🚛 Regular Collection Schedule
♻️ Reliable Service You Can Count On
From all of us at Waste Connections, we wish you and your family a safe, fun, and happy Independence Day weekend!

Also effective 7/1/2026, you are no longer required to separate trash and yard waste. Previously, this was necessary under the City of Fremont transfer station contract with their compost site, but now that Waste Connections has taken over the transfer station, all waste—including trash and yard waste—can be mixed.

All waste is billed by weight at disposal facilities, which yard waste is typically 3x heavier than basic household trash. Please note that yard waste is not billed separately for using a different truck. I realize this change may cause questions, and please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we transition to the new process.
