The third sculpture installation of the 2026 season went up last week along Main Street, and this one brings a lot of fun, color, and playful energy to downtown Lyons. Perfectly placed in front of Wildcat Mountaineering, the piece was created by artist Annette Coleman, who incorporates β€œupcycled” materials β€” including old satellite dishes β€” into her work.

A big thank you to John King, whose help with every installation and removal continues to be invaluable. Also, a shout out to one of our newest Town employees Joseph, who jumped in and assisted with the install. Stop by and check it out next time you’re in historic, downtown Lyons.

How many times have you driven from Lyons to Estes Park, past Steamboat Mountain and toward Trail Ridge Road? Long before modern highways, travelers made the journey by horse along rugged mountain routes, and the roads remained dirt through the 1920s and 1930s before sections of U.S. Highway 36 were gradually paved.

Did you know Trail Ridge Road has a Lyons connection? W.A. C**t, whose family settled in Lyons, helped oversee construction of the iconic road through Rocky Mountain National Park. In 1929, C**t purchased land in Lyons and, after retiring here, planted more than 10,000 walnut trees along with fruit trees and flowers across five acres in the foothills.

Rock Solid Lyons
Founded by Edward S. Lyon, who platted the town in 1881, Lyons grew as a hardworking quarry town built on the strength of its stunning local red sandstone. Many of the town’s historic buildings were constructed from this iconic stone as residents built the school, church, bank, and homes, along with a strong community from the ground up.
