Please take note and drive safely

🚧 A little road work is coming to South Grand! Here’s what drivers need to know:

Resurfacing work will take place on South Grand Avenue from Main Street to Taylor Street over the next few weeks. Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction while the work is underway, and drivers can expect construction activity and possible delays in the area.

Please slow down, use extra caution, and watch for workers and equipment while traveling through the work zone. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve our streets!

Late Sunday evening, Lyons Fire Dept units responded to an odor of smoke inside of a closed commercial business. This odor was reported by a cleaning crew.

Lyons Fire Dept used their Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) to assist in locating a cause. The smell appeared to be electrical in nature and a dim Fluorescent Light fixture, reading hotter than normal was located and disconnected.

Early Monday morning, maintenance staff located a desk that had some light ash under it. Inside a desk drawer, a lithium battery charging pack was found to have sustained thermal runaway. This fire ignited inside the drawer and self extinguished at some point over the weekend.

This is a reminder to check and dispose of lithium ion batteries properly. They are becoming prevalent in many items we use and are dangerous! Here is a safety sheet about lithium batteries!

Lyons Fire Dept is currently on scene assisting Sterling Fire Dept with a hay bale fire NW of Sterling. With the windy conditions and extreme heat multiple depts are on standby for assistance!

Thank you to all individuals and businesses that contributed to the success of our back to school supply drive. From schools supplies to non-perishable food items, we saw alot of smiling faces and happy people today! Couldn't have done it without your help!

Lyons and surrounding areas showed up for our school supply drive! However, in order to get items to the schools and teachers before open house, tomorrow night will be our last night of accepting items. The fire station will have our 7 p.m. meeting and then we are done collecting. City Hall is also collecting during regular business hours tomorrow. Thank you for making things a little bit easier on our community, teachers and students. We appreciate you!

LISTEN UP: Road construction is starting on US 56 highway at the west city limits of Lyons to the east city limits of Ellinwood.

The temporary asphalt plant is set up south of 56 on 8th road at Chase.

Large trucks, large equipment, and workers will be present. Please watch for workers, flaggers, and pilot cars!

There will be delays up to 15 mins they advised. If detouring around on country roads, please watch uncontrolled intersections and obstructed corners with tall corn fields.
