The last 4 years seemed to pass in the blink of an eye, and its election year again! It’s been an honor to serve the last two terms as your Sheriff. Please see our campaign announcement below for the 2026 sheriff’s election!
John DeGeorge is seeking a third term as Fillmore County Sheriff in this year’s election. DeGeorge is a 29 year veteran of the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office, serving as a deputy sheriff, undercover narcotics investigator, patrol sergeant, and captain before being elected sheriff in 2018.
“Our commitment to the people of Fillmore County remains the same today as it always has. Providing professional, effective public safety, maintain our strong community connection, and ensure that Fillmore County remains a great place to live.
Over the last 8 years, our Sheriff’s Office team has met many challenges. We took on the decades long issue of our old, inadequate jail that no longer met DOC standards. Through a multi-year collaborative project, we now have a new, responsibly sized 29 bed jail and up to date dispatch center that will serve the citizens of Fillmore County for many decades. By utilizing over 4 million dollars in grant funds, and the expiration of prior building bonds, this project was completed with minimal financial impact to the taxpayers.
We have continued crime prevention efforts through our DARE program, internet safety programs in schools, and public crime prevention programs. We continue our pro-active approach to training, equipping and preparing our staff to be effective.
I consider myself very fortunate to lead a team of dedicated professionals with the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office. These men and women are committed to their team, their community, and their duty. We will continue mentoring, and preparing this next generation of leadership for the future. The last 8 years as your sheriff has been the most challenging, and rewarding part of my career. My commitment to Fillmore County is as strong today as it was 29 years ago when I was sworn in as a deputy sheriff. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve as your Sheriff.”
