Dear Mableton Community

Thank you for your prayers and support and I’m headed to the run off for Mableton City Council District 2 race.

I am the only candidate with the most reliable track record with proven results. I am the only candidate that did not have family support ( no partner , parents, siblings ) I am the only candidate who is the primary caretaker of children. I do not have the pleasure of living in my parents home. Yet I made it.

Backstory
I moved to the South Cobb community 16 years ago for a brand new start. It was where I set foot on Six Flags Drive and coined the phrase we thrive on the drive. As I attended community meetings and school meetings, I would hear the same thing that parents were not involved. I would hear stories about how we could not ask for the property managers to complete maintenance tasks, without being threatened with retaliation. I organized renters, I presented workshops.

I did not hesitate to becaome involved in the community. I would attend eviction court ( pre-covid) and would question why eviction courts were wall to wall with black women and yet Cobb County was not majority black.

Yes I have been to eviction court, for a single black person with children to not to go to eviction court in Cobb County, you must either have a voucher, live with family or with a partner. In addition most investment owned properties file eviction and non renewal of leases at a very high rate.

So let’s talk about Mableton District 2

All of the schools in Mableton are title 1, over 70 percent of the students come from economically disadvantaged households.

45 percent of the community is renter occupied.

60 percent of rental households are led by single mothers.

I am the best candidate

In the 16 years I have lived here I have been recognized by 21 community organizations, started a successful non profit, made sure my daughter graduated from high school and college. I was instrumental with passing the passing of House Bill 346 being passed so that renters would not be retaliated against if they reported maintenance issues.

Even with all of my obstacles
I have been the most reliable community member.

16 years ago , I did not choose Six Flags Drive, Six Flags Drive chose me

I have done the best I could with the hand I have been dealt. My daughter is a college graduate and my son is a senior in high school. Choosing a career in education and non profit world is not a high earning career however it allows the flexibility I needed so I could academically, mentally and emotionally support my children.

I’m A 3rd generation College Graduate with the determination to thrive no matter what. The representative elected to city council must know how to navigate resources, and be able to communicate with constituents on all levels.

I thank you for returning back to the polls to elect

Good morning I Attended the Cobb Board of Commissioners meeting today and Provided updates that the patio windows were repaired located on one of our Riverside apartment complexes. Months the windows were left unrepaired since December 2022 and We Thrive on Riverside Renters Association requested the property to do repairs, children were complaining about the broken repairs at the schools and how vacant apartments were being used by squatters.

When children don’t feel safe at home they can not concentrate in school. If we are going to change the schools we must first change the environment where our children live.

After months of reminding the property to fix the windows and contacting code enforcement abd elected officials the windows were repaired March 3, 2023
Thank you to SCLC, Cobb Code enforcement, Cobb County Commissioner Monique a Sheffield and State Representative Terry Cummings for assisting.
