It’s been nearly a year since Seth made these beautiful partial quill ostrich boots, which I encouraged him to enter in the 13th International Art Competition for our church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They receive hundreds of artistic submissions from all over the world, and happily, chose these boots to be displayed in the church art museum in downtown Salt Lake City from now until the end of the year. If you’re in the area stop by and enjoy the exhibit!

This was my second year leading a local 4H leather crafting group. These kids did amazing! We had big plans but only completed one project- a knife sheath. They were so creative in coming up with designs and executing them. They smoked it in the county fair, and now they are off to state!

Thank you to those who donated leather and tools to our group to make our projects happen. Nancy Martiny, Morgan Buckert, Lisa Sorrell, and Trish Rhead went above and beyond in assisting this little group and helping these kids find a new passion and success in leather crafting.

I had to go way back and dig in the vault to find a picture of these boots. Seth learned to build pull-on cowboy boots through trial and error using family members as guinea pigs. This grey bull hide with the swinging mule ears were made for Seth's little brother, Sage. I'm posting these in honor of Sage's birthday; he would have been 44 years old today. Thank heavens for loving brothers who tell you that these are the best boots ever when clearly they were far from it. Sage passed away two months ago in a work accident, and so far it hasn't gotten an easier. We miss you and wish we could've built you a better pair of boots.

These pretty reproduction Acme boots are mine! 10-11 years ago I was boot shopping for my 8-year-old and found this vintage pair of Acme's Golden Angus. I snapped them up and they have now been worn by all 4 of our kids. In 2023 I was asked to submit some boots to display at Cowboy Poetry in Elko, NV, and I knew I wanted to recreate these beauties. I tried to match as well as I could, even down to the pull tabs. The last and the metallic kangaroo came from Sorrell Notions & Findings
