********PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*******

The Mackinaw Fire Department is asking all residents to not burn on Wednesday, February 18th. Tomorrow has been designated a Red Flag Day due to forecasted high winds and low humidity conditions.

Mackinaw Fire Department strongly recommends no open burning tomorrow.

Please help protect our community, neighboring properties, and first responders by postponing any planned burning activities.

If you have any questions, please contact the Mackinaw Fire Department.

Earlier today at approximately 12:19pm, the Mackinaw Fire Department was dispatched to a brush fire along the Mackinaw River, off Hild Road. Upon arrival, crews determined that access to the fire would be difficult, requiring entry from Tyrell Road instead.

Due to the challenging terrain and fire spread, mutual aid was requested. With the assistance of our neighboring departments, the fire was quickly brought under control and fully extinguished. Approximately 5.5 acres of property were burned.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our mutual aid partners for their support and teamwork, including: Minier Fire Allin Township Fire Department - Stanford, IL, Deer Creek, IL Fire Department, Tremont IL Fire Department, Mackinaw Rescue Squad, Danvers Fire department

Thank you to all who responded and assisted in today’s operation.
