Did you know that 4 out of every 10 Macon R-1 students ride a school bus each day? This percentage doesn't even include students who ride buses for athletics and activities, meaning nearly every student may ride one of our buses at some point during the school year.
With 20 buses in our fleet, bus safety remains a top priority. In addition to maintaining their school bus certification, our drivers complete 20 hours of training each year.
To help keep everyone safe, please remind your students, including those who ride for extracurricular activities, to practice safe behavior on and around school buses at all times.
Stay Seated. Remain in your seat while the bus is moving. Keep your feet, hands, and belongings out of the aisle.
Keep the Noise Down. Use appropriate voice levels so your driver can concentrate on the road and hear important sounds.
Follow the Driver's Instructions. Listen carefully and follow directions the first time.
Keep Hands and Heads Inside. Never extend your arms, hands, head, or objects outside the bus windows.
Wait for the Driver's Signal. When crossing in front of the bus, wait for your driver's signal and check for traffic in both directions before proceeding.
Practice Safe Boarding. Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before approaching. Board one at a time without pushing or shoving.
Keep the Bus Clean. Pick up trash and keep personal belongings secured. Loose items can create hazards or block exits.
Be Respectful. Treat your driver and fellow passengers with kindness. Avoid distractions, arguments, and behavior that could interfere with safe driving.
Please take a few moments to discuss these important safety reminders with your student at home. We appreciate your partnership in helping us provide safe and reliable transportation for our Macon Tigers!
