miles. The purpose behind this page is to connect you with the people that respond to your call Macon County Emergency Medical Service is based out of Samaritan Hospital in Macon, MO. We are a 24/7/365 Advanced Life Support ambulance providing 911 service to the 15,566 citizens of our county and those visiting. We also provide interfacility transfer service for residents of Macon County upon requ
est. We cover an area of 813 square miles with two ambulances responding from Samaritan Hospital. We maintain a fleet of 4 ambulances, two of which are in service, one is reserved for a backup, and one is reserved for long distance transfers. Our transfer truck is equipped with all the same equipment as our 911 trucks but has a smaller patient compartment on it. This increases fuel efficiency which reduces the cost of operating during a long distance transfer. All of our trucks are equipped with state of the art equipment which includes but is not limited to, Zoll cardiac monitors, Zoll ventilators, AutoPulse mechanical CPR devices, and IV Smart pumps. All of these help us provide premium emergency medical care to our community in your times of need. As well as being EMT's and Paramedics we are Emergency Room Technician's. In between 911 calls you will find us assisting the ER staff at Samaritan Hospital caring for the patients in the ER alongside the nurses and doctor. In addition to our paid staff, we have a vast network of volunteer EMR's (commonly referred to as First Responders). Our first responders are spread out all over the county as members of their local Fire Departments. If you live anywhere other than the city of Macon, these are likely the first people to arrive on scene. They provide quicker access to life saving care by administering basic life support while the ambulance is in route. Even after the ambulance has arrived they are a second set of hands and eyes. These members of our community are incredibly valuable members of this service. Macon County EMS responds to an average of 2,500 911 calls a year. We work closely with our friends in Law Enforcement, the Fire Service, and our local Rescue Squad to provide the excellent emergency care for the county that we call home.
