As Sheriff of Noxubee County, I want to keep our citizens informed about an important update regarding the Noxubee County Detention Center.

Starting today, inmates currently housed at the Noxubee County Detention Center will be transported to the Winston County Detention Center in Louisville, Mississippi, as long-overdue renovations begin on our detention facility. At this time, it has not been determined how long the inmates will remain housed in Winston County, but they will return once the renovations have been completed and the detention center is ready for occupancy.

These improvements are long overdue and are necessary to provide a safer, more secure, and more humane facility. Renovations will address critical issues, including the electrical system, sewer infrastructure, structural repairs, and other essential improvements to the building.

While those housed in our detention center are inmates, they are also human beings and someone's son, daughter, parent, or loved one. As Sheriff, I believe every person should be housed in a safe and properly maintained facility. Providing humane conditions is part of our responsibility and reflects the values of our community.

I also want to make one thing very clear: the Noxubee County Sheriff's Office remains committed to serving and protecting our community. Although our inmates are being temporarily housed at another facility during these renovations, our deputies are still on duty and enforcing the law every day. Don't mistake these renovations for a break in law enforcement. If you choose to break the law, you will be held accountable. Plain and simple.

I appreciate the patience and understanding of the citizens of Noxubee County during this process. I also want to thank the dedicated employees of the Noxubee County Sheriff's Office and the Winston County Sheriff's Office for their cooperation and professionalism as we work together to complete these much-needed improvements.

Thank you for your continued support as we invest in a safer facility while continuing to serve and protect the people of Noxubee County with integrity, transparency, and accountability.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY ARREST

On the night of July 23, shortly after 11:00 p.m., deputies with the Noxubee County Sheriff's Department responded to a burglary at Dollar General, located at 7070 Line Street in Shuqualak, Mississippi.

The investigation revealed that Donquez Semaja McCaa allegedly gained entry into the business by throwing a rock through an upper window before climbing inside. During the break-in, the suspect sustained cuts to his hand. Investigators determined that a garbage can was used to remove merchandise from the store valued at approximately $277.50.

Through the investigation, deputies identified McCaa as the suspect. He was located and arrested at his residence in Shuqualak, where the stolen merchandise was recovered.

McCaa was transported to the Noxubee County Detention Center and charged with Breaking and Entering a Commercial Building. His bond was set at $10,000, and the case will be presented to the March 2027 Grand Jury.

The Noxubee County Sheriff's Department remains committed to protecting our businesses and holding those who commit crimes accountable. We appreciate the hard work of our deputies in quickly identifying the suspect and recovering the stolen property.

If you have information about this case or any criminal activity in Noxubee County, please contact the Noxubee County Sheriff's Department or submit an anonymous tip through the P3 Tips App.
