You may remember about 5 years ago when we shared with you that our 1971 Cadillac ambulance had been found in a barn in Virginia. Last we heard, the vehicle was undergoing restoration by the Virginia Fire Museum Inc.

Recently, we were notified of the passing of one of the individuals who was instrumental initially in the storage, and then the transfer, of our old ambulance to the Museum.

There are hundreds of former members and supporters who have helped our organization become what it is today. Although we never met Jeannie, we felt it was appropriate to recognize her contribution to the preservation of our history.

In Memory of Jeannie Burruss Byrd

Jeanne “Jeannie” Burruss Byrd, 40, passed away on the morning of June 1, 2026, at home in Caroline County. She was a loyal daughter, sister, cousin, niece, aunt, and friend to many people and animals alike. A surprise to all, her passing leaves behind plans unrealized and work unfinished. Jeannie loved photography, animals, and life on the family farm. She was known for her loyalty, her quick wit, and her willingness to help those she cared about.
