Over the past two months, your Madbury firefighters have been fortunate to participate in interagency trainings with several of our neighboring departments. In May, Lee Fire & Rescue Department hosted a large-scale water supply drill where we were able to practice our rural water supply skills with many of our fire service partners. Last week, our members worked with Barrington, NH Fire & Rescue to hone our auto extrication skills. These interagency trainings are invaluable in strengthening the working relationship between departments that rely on each other during emergencies.

The Madbury Fire Department would like to thank all of our Mutual Aid Partners, New Hampshire State Police, the Madbury Police Department, McGregor Memorial EMS and the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office for all of their assistance at this mornings fire.

UPDATE: VICTIM OF MADBURY RESIDENTIAL FIRE IDENTIFIED

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has confirmed the identity of the deceased victim as Stephen A. White Jr., 56, of Madbury. White’s cause of death was determined to be carbon monoxide poisoning, and the manner of death was ruled accidental. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.

INITIAL NEWS RELEASE – March 6, 2026
ONE PERSON DECEASED AFTER FIRE AT MADBURY HOME

MADBURY, N.H. – New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey, Madbury Fire Chief Tom Perley, and Madbury Police Chief Joe McGann announce that one person is deceased, and a joint investigation is underway after a fire at a mobile home in Madbury.

At 11:59 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026, members of the Madbury Fire Department responded to Bunker Lane after multiple reports were made to 911 that a home was on fire. When the first responders arrived, they found the single-family home actively on fire and learned that the sole occupant was missing.

Firefighters worked for several hours to extinguish the fire. Due to a roof collapse, crews were initially unable to access all areas of the home. After the fire was extinguished, fire personnel located an adult male deceased inside the home.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner scheduled for today, Friday, March 6, 2026.

Investigators with the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. All aspects of the fire remain under investigation. The fire is not currently considered suspicious.

Members of the Madbury Fire Department, New Hampshire State Police, Madbury Police Department, and Durham Fire Department provided assistance at the scene. Additional mutual aid personnel, apparatus, and station coverage assistance were provided by firefighters from the communities of Barrington, Newington, Rochester, Lee, Dover, Nottingham, Epping, as well as by members of McGregor Memorial EMS. No first responders were injured.

Madbury Fire Department crews are out in full force providing coverage during the snow storm to keep our community safe. From clearing access for emergency vehicles to responding to 911 incidents.

As the storm wraps up. Please remember to stay off the roads, if possible, and give plows and emergency crews plenty of room to work. Road conditions can change quickly, and black ice may still be present even after snowfall ends.

If you must travel, allow extra time and drive cautiously. Remember to clear your vehicle of snow and ice before your morning commute.
