Madeira & Indian Hill Joint Fire District is a combination department covering the 24 square miles that constitute the jurisdictions of the City of Madeira and the Village of Indian Hill, Ohio. The Madeira and Indian Hill Joint Fire District is organized under the laws for Joint Fire Districts in the State of Ohio and protects the lives and properties of citizens of the City of Madeira and The Vil
lage of Indian Hill. We have been so organized since 1985, having evolved from our origins in the City of Madeira, beginning unofficially in 1924. The fire district operates out of two fire stations, one located at Miami and Euclid in Madeira and the other located at Drake and Shawnee Run Roads in Indian Hill, with the latter being the headquarters station for the district. The fire department provides fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical services (EMS), responds and assists on emergency to property calls such as flooding, broken water lines, trees on buildings, and power lines down. Additionally we respond to clear the roads and highways from fuel spills and auto accidents, respond to hazardous materials incidents, regulate underground storage tanks, enforce open burning regulations and play a key role in disaster preparedness. The fire department also inspects and conducts preventive maintenance on the approximately 1,500 fire hydrants located in the district twice each year, once in the spring and once in the fall. We engage in over thirty different support and logistic activities and programs that serve our ability to deliver our primary mission of Fire Suppression and EMS. Our current staff is comprised of seventeen (17) career and twenty five(25) part time professionals. The fire district also employs a clerk who handles the accounting and bookkeeping. We participate with all of our neighboring jurisdictions in an automatic mutual assistance agreement and collaborate, cooperate and coordinate with each of these neighbors to efficiently and effectively provide emergency response.
