Younger Brothers Capture

Younger Brothers Capture This page provides up-and-coming information for the annual re-enactment of the capture of the Young

Each year the town of Madelia, Minnesota celebrates the September 21, 1876 capture of the infamous Younger Brothers. Actors portraying the Younger Brothers and the posse recreate the shootout at the actual location where it happened. In downtown Madelia, events occur all day including Wild West skits, Pony Express, High Noon Bank Robbery, Arts + Crafts, Food Venders, Petting Zoo, and much more. Come celebrate an 1800's day of fun with horses, cowboys, outlaws, and gun smoke.

Let's Put On Our Thinking Caps or Hats!

Each year we celebrate Oscar Sorbel the young boy who rode into Madelia to alert the community of the Younger Brothers gang. The subsequent capture of these outlaws was a direct result of his quick and courageous actions.

In 1999 the Madelia Area Chamber announced the first Oscar Sorbel Hometown Hero Award as part of the Younger Brothers Event.

This year the award will be presented on Saturday, November 23rd during of new event, BeDAZZLED in the Park starting at 5:00 pm near the stone shelter.

This award is to honor an individual who has served the Madelia community by his or her outstanding volunteering activities. I know you know someone in our community you have thought about honoring!

This is your opportunity to add that special person as a nominee. To nominate someone, please pick up a form at the Madelia Times-Messenger office, Alliance Bank, City Hall, Pioneer Bank, or the Madelia Area Chamber office.

The form should be turned in no later than Monday, November 18th. You may leave the form at the Madelia Times-Messenger office, City Hall or at the Madelia Area Chamber Office or mail to Madelia Area Chamber, P. O. There will be no re-enactment in 2019. There were just too many hurdles to overcome to hold the event this year. We are hoping to reorganize and get back on track so that we are able to continue holding re-enactments in the future.

We do intend to award our annual Hometown Hero award in 2019. Details have not been finalized yet for the award.
