This week the Grand Jury had the privilege of seeing a live demonstration from the incredible Madera County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit. From locating hidden narcotics and recovering missing items, to assisting in suspect apprehension, these highly trained dogs and their skilled handlers showed us just how vital they are to law enforcement. Their precision, obedience, and dedication were nothing short of impressive.

A huge thank you to the Madera County Sheriff's Department for taking the time to share this experience with us, and for all you do to keep our community safe.

They have the authority to investigate all aspects of the city and county government, school districts, and special districts.

On February 4th, the Madera County Board of Supervisors recognized the 2024-2025 Madera County Grand Jury and proclaimed February 2025 as Civil Grand Jury Awareness Month.

The Madera County Civil Grand Jury has revamped the Citizen Complaint forms. Citizens are now able to mail a printed PDF or submit their complaint electronically. All complaints received are reviewed by the panel, and remain confidential.

Every year the newly impaneled jurors receive training from the Civil Grand Jurors' Association of California. The two day training includes valuable information including the scope of the grand juror's responsibilities, the investigation and interview processes, and report writing.

This year, the 2024-2025 panel learned from 5 wonderful trainers from across California, including our very own Madera county resident and former Madera County Grand Jury member Mark Swan.
