Caltrans has announced a scheduled closure in Madera next week for tree trimming operations.

On Tuesday, September 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the southbound State Route 99 offramp to Cleveland Avenue will be closed.

Drivers should allow additional travel time, use caution in the area, and watch for maintenance crews and traffic controls. The closure may be extended if necessary due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.

R-37: Raymond Road Shoulder Paving Project Update 🚧

Crews are hard at work constructing new paved shoulders and rehabilitating existing pavement on Raymond Road, just north of Cleveland Avenue. This project is being carried out by Juarez Brothers General Engineering.

Once complete, these improvements will help reduce particulate emissions, enhance safety, and improve traffic flow for everyone traveling through the area.

Project Timeline:
Awarded: May 2026
Construction Started: July 2026
Expected Completion: August 2026

Madera's giving residents a backstage pass. The 2026 Citizens Academy kicks off September 15, a free nine-week program that puts you face-to-face with city leaders to learn about how decisions on public safety, parks, community development, and finance really get made. No tests, no public speaking, just dinner and honest conversation. Past graduates have gone on to sit on City Council and local boards and commissions. Space is limited, and the city aims to bring together participants from across all corners of Madera, so we welcome applicants from every neighborhood, background, and walk of life.

The City of Madera is investing approximately $2.5 million in improvements to the Madera Municipal Airport, including repairs to the runway and taxiway.

As work moves forward, the airport runway will experience intermittent closures over the next 30 days. Pilots, airport users, and others conducting business at the airport are encouraged to plan accordingly and check current operating conditions before arrival or departure.

BIG NEWS: $106.1 MILLION ALLOCATED FOR HIGHWAY 99 IMPROVEMENTS!

The California Transportation Commission has allocated $106.1 million for the South Madera 6-Lane Project on State Route 99, advancing a long-awaited improvement to one of our community’s most important transportation corridors.

The $125.2 million project will widen Highway 99 to six lanes from Avenue 7 to Avenue 12, improving safety, mobility, freight movement, and the capacity of this critical north-south route.

Construction is anticipated to begin in February 2027.

Highway 99 connects our residents to jobs and services, supports local businesses and agriculture, and serves as a vital link for commerce throughout the San Joaquin Valley. This investment represents a large step toward building the transportation infrastructure Madera needs to support its continued growth.

We thank the California Transportation Commission, Caltrans Central Valley District 6, Madera County Transportation Commission, the Finish the 99 Coalition, and all of the local and regional partners who have continued advocating for improvements to Highway 99.

TLDR; More than $106 million for Madera County. Six lanes through South Madera. A major investment in the future of our community.

🏆 STATE CHAMPIONS!

Tonight, the Madera City Council proudly recognized the Madera National Little League Senior Softball All-Stars with Certificates of Recognition honoring their historic championship season.

The team captured the NorCal State Championship, becoming the first Madera National softball team, and the first Madera National team in either baseball or softball, to win a state title.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, families, and supporters who helped make this incredible achievement possible. Thank you for representing Madera with pride and making history! 🥎🏆

Business owners planning to paint or build commercial buildings in Madera must now choose from a city-approved color palette under new exterior color standards adopted by the City Council. The new standards follow community feedback and discussion about commercial building colors and establish guidelines for exterior colors moving forward.

Under the standards, exterior façade colors must be low-reflectance, subtle, neutral or earth-tone. High-intensity and fluorescent colors are prohibited. Brighter trim and accent colors, including primary colors, may be used on up to 10% of a building’s façade.

New exterior color standards are now in effect for construction and repainting projects in Madera’s commercial zones.
