Madera County Sheriff's Office The Madera County Sheriff's Department was formed in 1893, the same year the County of Madera was founded. The county’s first Sheriff, W.H.

Serving Madera County since 1893, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office protects unincorporated communities through Patrol, Investigations, Special Operations & Professional Standards while leading emergency response and coroner services countywide. Thurman, served from 1893 to 1895. Sheriff Tyson Pogue is the 15th Sheriff to serve Madera County. Sheriff Pogue is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer and Chief Coroner of Madera County. He is responsible for providing public protection and investigating crimes that occur within the unincorporated areas of Madera County. The Madera County Sheriff’s Department is divided into four distinct and critical levels, all of which operate under the direction of Sheriff Pogue. Those sections are: the Valley Division, Mountain Division, Corrections Division, and Administrative Division which oversees the offices of records, dispatch, civil process and court security.

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION: The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is NOT conducting or directing the power shutoff. This is a PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). PG&E is solely responsible for determining which areas are affected, when power is shut off and when service is restored.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is providing public safety support and coordinating emergency response efforts during the event. For outage information and updates, please visit pge.com/pspsupdates.

PG&E is monitoring conditions that could require a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) beginning tonight, Wednesday, October 14, 2026 around 11:00 p.m. Power is estimated to be restored Saturday, October 17, 2026, depending on weather and safety inspections.

The potential outage area has expanded includes Bass Lake, North Fork, Oakhurst, Ahwahnee, O’Neals and Coarsegold.

🚔 The Madera County Sheriff’s Office will increase patrol staffing in affected areas, and the County Emergency Operations Center will be activated to coordinate response efforts.

🔋 CHARGING STATION AVAILABLE: The Oakhurst Sheriff’s Substation will be open Thursday and Friday, October 15–16, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for residents needing to charge phones or other electronic devices.

11-year-old Liam Caplinger was last seen walking down the driveway of his residence near Road 620 and Badger Hollow Trail in Oakhurst, CA.

Age: 11 years old
Height: 5’0”
Weight: 100 lbs
Last seen wearing: Gray sweater and dark-colored sweatpants, possibly green.

If you live in the area, please keep an eye out for Liam and check your property and surrounding areas.

UPDATE: Mr. Morales has been located and is safe.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Cristian Morales, 46, who was last seen on October 9, 2026 near Road 28 and Arizona Avenue in Madera.

Cristian has not been in contact with family members since approximately 4:30 p.m. on October 9.

We are asking anyone who may have seen Cristian or knows his whereabouts to contact the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 675-7770.

Today, Sheriff Tyson Pogue and several of our staff members were proud to join Community Action Partnership of Madera County, Inc. for the annual Soup Bowl Event, honoring survivors of domestic violence and raising awareness about the impact it has on individuals and families in our community.

This year’s guest speaker courageously shared her personal story of survival, inspiring everyone in attendance with her strength and resilience.

We are grateful to the organizers for bringing our community together to support survivors and remind those experiencing domestic violence that they are not alone.

PUBLIC NOTICE: LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITY IN THE AREA VISTA HEIGHTS LANE IN OAKHURST

Madera County Sheriff’s Detectives are serving a search warrant for aggravated assault in the area of Vista Heights Lane in Oakhurst. One person has been taken into custody.

There is no immediate threat to the community. Please use caution in the area while law enforcement personnel are on scene.

Deputies have cleared the location and were able to recover some of the stolen property. A female was arrested for an unrelated probation warrant.
