Madison’s family first Challenge:
Idea: Today’s idea is a little different.
Remind the family of giving back, acts of service and kindness.
Option 1- Help your children go through their old books, find any they no longer want/need & take them to a local “free little library”.
Madison heights has many of them placed all around the city. A couple we know of:
1-Madison Elementary on the east side of the bldg by the back parking lot
2-Wilkinson middle school in front of the bldg
3-at the corner of Park Court & Jennifer
4-on the road into the Nature Center on 13 mile.
OPTION 2- Speaking of little libraries- Many of them hold food items! These little libraries are for local families in need of assistance, such as the one on park court (1.5 blocks north of 11) on the east side of the street.
**where else do we have LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES? Please add in the comments more little libraries around the city.
OPTION 3- Go through your kitchen/pantry cupboards, find shelf stable food items you don’t need/want & drop them at a little free library that takes food items (park court as example), OR… The Madison Heights Food Pantry which has 5 donation sites placed around the city. They even have bins at Central Church on 12 mile you can donate into. Please make sure nothing requires refrigeration bc people check the bins regularly but aren’t there 24/7 so anything requiring that would potentially spoil. **always check the food Isn’t expired**
OPTION 4- Write Valentine’s Day cards for the Seniors at the Senior Towers or active adult center. This would be a great way to brighten the day of our older neighbors & teach our kids about kindness. You can get more info about this by either calling them directly or contacting us. We can help you make this possible if you would like to & need help.
OPTION 5- Shoveling snow for neighbors who haven’t yet. This both cleans our sidewalks but also helps some neighbors who maybe are elderly, disabled etc & cannot afford services by companies.
OPTION 6- Make a Valentine’s Day box for your local garbage men, mail carrier etc. leave it for them when you expect them the wk before Valentines to Thank them for their hard work.
OPTION 7- Make a box of goodies for your local police department, fire house etc. Thanking those who keep us safe.
THE POINT OF THIS, is remembering we are teaching the next generation of leaders, helping hands & givers. Show them the least commonly spoken about ways to give back. The ways they will see their acts make a difference. Donating to charities is amazing and beautiful, but this is a more hands on, direct way. What other ways do you suggest? Let us hear your ideas & what your family does to give back!!
