Our State legislature has introduced some new e-bike laws. You can contact our state leadership State Representative Mike McFall.

Two bills have been introduced in the Michigan House and Senate that would add more restrictions on minors riding e-bikes.

Madison Heights neighbors, we have received many inquiries about commercial drone regulation. Amazon has officially launched its Prime Air drone delivery service from the nearby Hazel Park fulfillment center, and our city falls within the 7.5‑mile delivery zone. That means you may see drones passing through the area or making deliveries around town.

We have created a resource on the City website with the FAQs from residents regarding commercial drone delivery.

Ultimately, the City has no jurisdiction over federal airspace; therefore, submitting complaints directly to Amazon or the FAA is the fastest way to do so.

To submit Amazon Prime Air Feedback:
Email directly at [email protected]
Call directly at 1-888-280-4331
Chat online with by opening a Customer Support Chatbox on Amazon’s website, select “something else” and select "Amazon Drone Delivery."

Dangerous Flying, Near-Misses, or Safety Violations should be reported through the Federal Aviation Administration’s online portal: hotline.faa.gov

Earlier today, there was a man in his 20s riding an e-bikes on the sidewalk who when crossing a residential road had a collision with a car stopped at a stop sign. I’ve been advocating to our city manager and the rest of council at City Council at meetings and on Facebook about creating a local e-bike ordinance. I do know that e-bikes are a valuable mode of transportation for some to commute to work or to ride recreationally but riding on sidewalks is dangerous in my opinion. Well, I do not want to make this ordinance to ban e-bikes but to put limitations on where e-bikes can be rode at and to hopefully guide individuals who use e-bikes to wear helmets and to be more safe. At this time, our city attorney is working on an ordinance that I hope soon will be voted on by our council. I’m looking forward to public participation when we do have public comment hearings on the e-bike ordinances.

If you are an absentee voter and have already voted for a candidate that has dropped out of the primary race you can visit the city hall and “spoil” your vote and vote again for another person.

I fully support all of our neighbors in our city and this is not acceptable. May we all live safely without threats of violence and harassment. No matter what Faith or ethnic you are.

It is June 23 and we are in the midst of summer construction happening on John R. Rd. Here in Madison Heights. We have many businesses that are not being visited due to the construction. Sure it takes longer to get there and you can’t make a left turn either direction but you can plan ahead and drive the direction of the street your business is on. Whether it is Leo’s Country Oven , Betty Ross Diner or other businesses they all can use your help being visited during the construction.

While E-Bikes are fun to ride and do also provide an economical purpose of commuting to places we need to make sure that people are safe. I am working with the city on review of the state law and how we can go the extra mile and improve on make it even safer here. Helmet wearing is important. Also being aware of your surrounding of traffic and pedestrians. If we get to a stage of making new ordinances about ebikes I will look forward to participation from our community.
