🐾 A MICROCHIP COULD HELP BRING YOUR PET HOME! 🐾
Here is a good reminder of why every pet should be microchipped — even indoor-only pets.
Pets can slip through doors, escape through windows, or simply get out unexpectedly. Accidents happen, and once a pet is outside, a microchip can be the key to getting them safely back home.
📱 KEEP YOUR INFORMATION UPDATED!
A microchip is only helpful if it is registered and your contact information is current.
Please make sure:
• Your pet’s microchip is registered
• Your phone number and email are up to date
• Your address is current
• You update the information whenever your contact information changes
⏰ KNOW THE STRAY HOLD PERIOD
When a stray animal enters Animal Control, there is a legally required holding period that gives an owner an opportunity to be located and reclaim their pet.
In Madison Heights, a stray dog or cat must be held for at least 4 days after being acquired by Animal Control.
If the animal has a collar, license, or other evidence of ownership, the animal must be held for at least 7 days.
During this time, owners have the opportunity to identify and reclaim their pet by providing appropriate proof of ownership.
Once the applicable holding period has passed and an animal has not been reclaimed, the City may determine an appropriate outcome for the animal, which can include adoption or transfer to a shelter or rescue organization.
❤️ Please don’t wait to look for your missing pet.
If your pet goes missing, contact Animal Control and local shelters right away, post in local lost-and-found pet groups, and check nearby shelters frequently.
