🌩️ POST-STORM PET SAFETY REMINDER 🐾🌩️

With severe weather moving through our area, Madison Heights Animal Control would like to remind residents to take a few moments to inspect their property before letting pets outside.

✔️ Check fencing, gates, tie-outs, and other containment areas for storm damage, loose boards, fallen branches, or other hazards that could allow pets to escape.

✔️ Walk your yard and inspect for debris, standing water, and displaced wildlife. High winds, heavy rain, and fallen trees can injure or displace wild animals, causing them to seek shelter in yards, under decks, near structures, or within tall grass and brush.

✔️ Pay attention if your dog suddenly becomes fixated on a particular area of the yard. Injured wildlife may be hidden from view and can bite or scratch if approached. Deceased wildlife can also pose health and safety risks to pets.

🚨 FOR THE RESIDENTS READING THIS POST, THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING. THE NEXT STEP IS A COURTROOM. 🚨

73° outside. 115° in the sun. That is a death trap. And we are done asking nicely 😑.

Yesterday, a dog was left in the sun when the ambient temperature was just 73°F. The ground and air inside that sun exposure read 115°F 🥵. That is not "a little warm." That is life-threatening! That is animal neglect. And that is a crime in Eastpointe.

This is not a suggestion. This is the law.

That owner is now facing multiple misdemeanor citations and will answer to our court system. They failed to provide adequate care such as shelter, food, water, and the dog was improperly tethered and unable to reach shade. They will now face the consequences ⚖️.

📌 LET US BE PERFECTLY CLEAR:

⚠️ If the temperature is above 82°F, your pet is NOT permitted outside for more than 3️⃣0️⃣ minutes.

⚠️ We do not care about your excuses. Your pet's body & health does not care about your schedule, your opinions, or your pet's "preferences."

⚠️ If your pet "enjoys" the heat, you had better be out there suffering through it with them — or you will still be cited. We will not debate this.

🚫 If you leave for work with your pet outside, do not be surprised when you are called home to let them in — or when your pet is confiscated.

If your pet is confiscated, you will go to court to try and try to get them back. And we will fight to ensure you do not for their safety and well-being.

This is accountability. Not a conversation. Not a request. The law exists to protect those who cannot protect themselves. We will protect the voiceless if their owners will not.

Do better. Bring them inside. Be the owner your pet thinks you are.

🐾☃️ UPDATE: Lakota has been adopted!! Bambi is now available through Oakland County 🦌🐾

Happy late DOG-nesday!! 🐾🦌

Lakota is now making his fourth appearance on our page with still no applications 😔

This sweet boy is more than your typical husky, he’s your next best friend. Lakota is one of the most mild mannered huskies in the shelter where he’s spent the last 3 months. He loves walks and is super calm on them with our shelter staff. It breaks our hearts to have to post him again, but we aren’t giving up hope that his forever home is out there! Check the comments to see this perfect boy on a walk! 🐺💛🐾

We also want to introduce you to our shelter’s newest resident… everyone meet Bambi! 🦌

This sweet girl came in as a stray and has had no one come for her and so she’s now looking for her forever home! She’s a young pup (possibly a shepherd-mix) with lots of energy! She LOVES walks more than anything. Bambi is a shy girl at first, but once she opens up she’ll be your most loyal and bestest friend ever! She’s quickly won our hearts over here at the shelter and we’re sure she’ll do the same with all of you! 🦌🩷✨
