Monelison Fire Receives Dominion Power Grant

The Monelison Volunteer Fire Department recently applied for a $3,000 Volunteer Fire Department Grant through Dominion Power. On August 25, 2026, Dominion Power hosted a meal from Fleming Mountain Grill for the department. After the meal, representatives from the Local Affairs Advisor of Central Virginia and Virginia State Firefighters Association presented the department with a $3,000 check. These funds will be used to purchase new Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for our Swiftwater Team that is scheduled for replacement. We sincerely appreciate the grant money and wonderful meal from Dominion Power.

With Deepest Sympathy

Today, we regretfully inform every one of the loss of a very special member of our fire department family and extended fire service community, Honorary Firefighter Patricia “Pat” Day (MVFD 149).

Pat served Monelison Volunteer Fire Department from 1986-2004 along side her beloved husband Lee Day. Pat earned her place among many through her unwavering support, friendship, compassion, and genuine love for the men and women who serve there community. Being recognized as an Honorary Firefighter was a reflection of the unwavering love and passion to serve others.

She was much more than an honorary member. She became a friend, a trusted supporter, and someone who cared deeply about firefighters and their families. Her presence brought encouragement, kindness, and warmth to our department, and she had a way of making those around her feel valued and appreciated.

One of her greatest gifts was her ability to connect with people. She had a special way of encouraging and loving everyone, creating friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Her influence reached beyond the fire station and into the lives of many who had the privilege of knowing her.

We extend our deepest condolences to Chief Lee Day, her family and loved ones. Please know that she was deeply loved, respected, and appreciated by our department and the citizens of Amherst County. Her impact on the many lives will not be forgotten, and her memory will forever remain a part of our fire department and Amherst County.

Gone from our sight, but forever in our hearts ❤️🇺🇸

Firefighter Hilty, along with Firefighter Daniel and Firefighter Abila, represented the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department at Lighthouse Baptist Church’s Water Day.

Our members enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with the children and families of the church while participating in a fun community event. Events like Water Day provide an excellent opportunity for our department to build relationships with the community we serve outside of emergency calls.

We appreciate Lighthouse Baptist Church for inviting the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department to be part of this special event. We are grateful for the continued support of our community and look forward to opportunities to connect with our neighbors.

Thank you, Lighthouse Baptist Church, for allowing us to be part of your Water Day! 🚒

It is with a heavy heart that we extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Josh Jennings.

Josh was a young, dedicated servant who was always willing to give his time and help others. He was also a valued member of the Evington Volunteer Fire Department, where he selflessly served his community and made a difference in the lives of others.

We are grateful for Josh’s dedication, his willingness to serve, and the time he gave to protect and help his neighbors. His commitment to the Evington community and the fire department will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jennings family, his friends, fellow firefighters, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing Josh. May God provide comfort and strength during this difficult time.

Thank you, Josh, for your service, your dedication, and your willingness to serve others. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten. 🙏🚒

Monelison Volunteer Fire Department responded to 20 Calls yesterday evening.

These calls ranged from Power Lines Down, Arcing Power Lines, Trees Down, and Brush Fires. This was a coordinated effort between Amherst County Dispatch, Amherst County Sheriff's Office, Amherst Fire & EMS, Amherst Fire, and Pedlar Fire to ensure every call was taken care of.

A storm with straight line winds came through the county around 4:30 PM causing damages throughout and power outages.

Please use caution on your morning commute and be aware of downed trees, downed lines, and lingering branches in trees.

We Thank everyone that was part of the response team in ensuring the citizens and communities were taken care of.
