Madison Police Officer Jonathan Mills Completes Prestigious Northwestern University Leadership Program-

MADISON, GA – The City of Madison and the Madison Police Department proudly congratulate Senior Police Officer Jonathan Mills on successfully completing the highly respected School of Police Staff & Command (SPSC) through Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety.

The School of Police Staff & Command is one of the nation's premier executive leadership programs for law enforcement professionals. The intensive 10-week course prepares current and emerging leaders with advanced training in leadership, organizational management, strategic planning, ethical decision-making, and public safety administration. Completion of the program reflects Officer Mills' commitment to professional excellence and his dedication to providing the highest level of service to the Madison community.

Officer Mills began his law enforcement career in 2016 after completing the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course as a pre-service cadet. He served with the Athens-Clarke County Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff from 2019 to 2021 before joining the Madison Police Department.

Today, Officer Mills serves as one of the department's certified Field Training Officers, where he plays a vital role in mentoring and developing newly hired officers. His passion for teaching and investing in the next generation of law enforcement professionals reflects his commitment to building a strong, well-prepared police department.

In addition to completing the School of Police Staff & Command, Officer Mills has earned General Instructor Training (Levels I and II) through Georgia Piedmont Technical College and is actively working toward becoming a certified fi****ms instructor. He is also pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice Technology through Lanier Technical College, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth.

When he is away from the badge, Officer Mills is a devoted husband, father, and deacon at his church. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially gathering every other Sunday for friendly board game competitions.

Help us make the first days of school safe and efficient! Before the first day, please review the MCHS car rider map and follow the designated traffic pattern.

✔️ Follow all traffic signs and staff directions.
✔️ Drop off and pick up students only in designated areas.
✔️ Pull forward as directed to keep traffic moving.
✔️ Be patient and allow extra time during the first few weeks.

🚗Reminder for Student drivers: Follow all campus traffic rules, obey the posted speed limit, eliminate distractions, and drive safely at all times.

FYI: Plan ahead for school/work schedules during the repair process.

This week East Coast Grading/GDOT finished milling and paving the worst spots on Main Street. We got to see how efficient and professional their work is.

On to the next phase, milling and repaving the entire length of Main Street. Remember we said there would be unconventional hours? Here’s where they start. Beginning Sunday, July 19, milling the street (removing a layer of asphalt which is recycled) will occur during evening and nighttime hours. Come daylight those milled sections will be repaved. This will continue until Main Street is repaved end-to-end.

Thanks for your patience, everyone. It will be well worth it!

THEY'RE HERE!
Georgia DOT crews have descended on Madison. The result will be spanking new pavement for Main Street end-to-end. In the meantime, stop-and-go traffic on our main throughfare.

This is a multi-faceted project: repairing, milling (chewing up the existing pavement), and paving. Consequently, there will be crews working non-stop - sometimes during unconventional hours. They (and we) beg your patience. This will take a few weeks, so best to reorient your driving brain and routes as much as possible.

Remember, this is a DOT project so they set the schedule, but we can help by being as accommodating as possible.

PSA regarding the police / emergency personnel activity at Morgan Medical this morning.

At approximately 9:08 a.m. today, Morgan Medical Center received a bomb threat. Local law enforcement responded immediately and is actively managing the situation.

The safety of our patients, visitors, and staff remains our highest priority. At this time, all patients and staff are safe, and the threat is being addressed.

We appreciate the prompt response of our law enforcement partners and the cooperation of our staff and patients. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available and as appropriate.

Morgan County Fire Rescue Announces Transition to 24/72 Fire Department Schedule

Morgan County Fire Rescue is proud to announce an important step forward for our department, our personnel, and the citizens we serve. MCFR will be transitioning to a 24-hours on / 72-hours off shift schedule, a model used by many progressive fire and emergency service agencies to better support firefighter wellness, operational readiness, and long-term service delivery.
This schedule change reflects our continued commitment to building a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable fire rescue organization. The 24/72 schedule provides firefighters with improved recovery time between shifts, helping reduce fatigue and allowing personnel to return to duty rested, focused, and ready to serve. In a profession that demands physical strength, mental sharpness, and emotional resilience, adequate rest and recovery are essential.
The new schedule also supports a better work-life balance for our firefighters and their families. More time between duty shifts allows personnel to spend meaningful time at home, manage personal responsibilities, pursue training and education, and maintain overall wellness. Supporting our firefighters in this way helps improve morale, retention, and job satisfaction across the department.
From an operational standpoint, the 24/72 schedule strengthens consistency and readiness. Firefighters will continue to provide dependable, around-the-clock emergency response while benefiting from a schedule designed to promote long-term performance. The change also helps make Morgan County Fire Rescue more competitive in recruiting and retaining qualified emergency services professionals in an increasingly challenging public safety workforce environment.
Most importantly, this transition benefits the citizens and visitors of Morgan County. A well-rested, well-supported, and motivated fire rescue workforce is better equipped to respond quickly, perform safely, and deliver the highest level of emergency service when our community needs us most.
