Congratulations to Ramage Elementary School teacher Morgan Christian, who received a Letter of Commendation from Boone County Schools Superintendent Allen Sexton for using the Heimlich maneuver to help a choking child during lunch.

A third-grade student began choking on a pickle and was unable to breathe or speak. Mrs. Christian quickly recognized the emergency and performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully dislodging the pickle and allowing the student to breathe. Her quick thinking, calm response, and immediate action prevented a potentially tragic outcome.

Assistant Superintendent Steve Gaines and Human Resources Director Doug Barrett delivered the letter to Mrs. Christian today.

September is Attendance Awareness Month. This month we will share daily facts about student attendance, which is crucial to student success.

According to Attendance Works, absenteeism in the first month of school can predict poor attendance throughout the school year. Half the students who miss 2-4 days in September go on to miss nearly a month of school.
