The Madison Fire Department recently held a pinning ceremony for our new Deputy Chief Philip Tolstad. Chief Derrick Layton presented Philip to everyone as the new Deputy Chief and Steve Thomas gave him an inspiring ‘charge’ to go on and do great things for Madison.
Philip’s wife Amanda took part in the ceremony as she pinned him with his DC badge as their daughters Bailey & Ava looked on. In attendance were retirees: Chief Tom Lariviere, Johnny Minninger & Denson Robinson.
FF Daniel Moulder gathered all the firefighters together and led in a prayer. Congratulations Deputy Fire Chief Philip Tolstad 🚒🔥🧑‍🚒

The City of Madison has deployed personnel and resources from both the Madison Police Department and Madison Fire Department to Wiggins, Mississippi, to assist with ongoing rescue operations as rising floodwaters continue to impact the area.

We ask that you keep all those affected by this severe weather event, as well as the first responders working tirelessly to protect lives and property, in your thoughts and prayers. Our hearts are with the communities facing these challenges, and we remain committed to providing assistance wherever it is needed.

The Madison Fire Department would like to congratulate Philip Tolstad on his recent promotion to Deputy Fire Chief. Chief Tolstad began his career with Madison Fire in 2004, where he rose in rank from Lieutenant, to Battalion Chief, and now Deputy Fire Chief. Among many attributes, Chief Tolstad is known for his professionalism, work ethic, bravery & commitment and his “I won’t ask my guys to do anything I wouldn’t do” attitude. Chief Tolstad was once asked “what’s the most rewarding part of your job?” and his answer was “When all the training and effort pays off, and we are able to help someone in the toughest time of their lives.” Congratulations Deputy Chief Tolstad, well deserved!

It was a wonderful day yesterday at the Madison Fire Department celebrating Deputy Chief Steve Thomas and his retirement. Thank you to everyone who came and helped us wish him well.
