If you are without power because of the storms, be cautious with any food stored in your refrigerator.

If the doors stay closed, food will stay safe for up to 4 hours in a refrigerator, 48 hours in a full freezer, or 24 hours in a half-full freezer. Perishable foods should be thrown out if they are stored without power for more than 4 hours.

⚡️ With storms in the forecast, MGE reminds customers to be prepared.

Most outages are caused by storms or accidents. While we can’t control the weather, we can be ready. MGE crews respond quickly and safely, but a little planning goes a long way.

Before an outage:
• Sign up for MGE outage notifications
• Bookmark the outage map + save 608‑252‑7000 in your phone
• Charge devices and check flashlight batteries before storms
• Consider backup power for well or sump pumps
• Assemble a home emergency kit and review it regularly

During an outage:
• Report outages online, by texting 'OUT' to 73904, or by calling MGE
• Unplug sensitive electronics to avoid overloads
• Keep fridge/freezer doors closed
• Use battery‑powered devices for updates
• Only use generators outdoors and away from your home to avoid carbon monoxide dangers

After an outage:
• If your power is still out while neighbors have theirs, call MGE
• Never enter a flooded basement until power is disconnected

I recently sent out the May Edition of the 'Joers Journal' and I wanted to take a moment to explain why you will not see another update in your email inbox until later in November.

Due to a specific campaign ethics law within Wisconsin state statute, often referred to as the "50 Piece Rule" (WIS. STAT. § 11.1205). The law prohibits a person who is an incumbent in elected office and is actively running for re-election from using public resources for the distribution of 50 or more pieces of substantially identical materials during the campaign season, which officially began June 1st.

The State Ethics Commission has ruled that newsletters such as my 'Joers Journal' are subject to this regulation, as each person who receives it is considered to be receiving a separate piece of identical material. As such, the May Edition will be the last edition of the 'Joers Journal' you’ll receive in your inbox until after election season this November. If you would like to stay connected to my office and my work in the meantime, I encourage you to continue to follow my social media accounts.

Please don’t hesitate to remain in touch in the interim, I would love to continue to hear from you. You can reach out to my office any time at [email protected].

This e-update will be the last monthly newsletter that you will receive until November of this year. This is due to a specific campaign ethics law within Wisconsin state statute, o...

Last week I had the opportunity to visit with students from Blackhawk Middle School located in the part of Madison I represent in the Assembly. These future leaders had great questions for me and other local officials in attendance.
