The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), also known as H.R. 1, passed on July 4, 2025 and added work requirements to Medicaid. This new requirement will affect some members enrolled in BadgerCare Plus in 2027. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) launched a new webpage with information about the new federal Medicaid requirement including when it will go into effect, how to meet it, and reasons people may be exempt. You can view the webpage here:
https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/medicaid/work.htm
The webpage also includes a screening tool that allows anyone to explore whether they may have to meet the new federal Medicaid work requirement. Please note this tool is for informational purposes only—it is not an application nor a formal decision. You can check it out below:

The next DHS webinar about OBBBA/H.R. 1 for community partners will focus solely on this new federal Medicaid work requirement. This webinar will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 2 to 3 p.m. During the webinar, DHS staff will share an overview of the requirement, the implementation timeline, and planned communication to Medicaid members. As part of Elder Abuse Awareness Month, Dane County Adult Protective Services (APS)—in collaboration with Pellitteri Waste Systems' Data Destruction Division, the Area Agency on Aging, Dane County Highway & Transportation Department, Dane County Department of Waste + Renewables, and the City of Madison—is hosting its annual Shred Fest and Small Electronics Recycling Event on Friday, June 12 at Warner Park (2930 N. Sherman Ave.) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for Dane County residents. Financial exploitation, financial abuse, and financial scams are the leading types of elder abuse each year in Dane County and across Wisconsin. By confidentially shredding personal documents and recycling small electronics (cell phones, laptops, E-readers, and/or tablets) with identifying information, Dane County residents can help protect themselves from foul play.

Dane County residents are encouraged to bring their personal documents (up to three bags/boxes per vehicle) to be confidentially shredded by Pellitteri's Data Destruction Division. In addition, Dane County Waste & Renewables will be accepting small personal electronics for recycling. Electronics that will be accepted include cell phones, laptops, e-readers, and/or tablets. Dane County Waste & Renewables will then ensure the devices are properly and safely recycled—protecting personal information that may be stored on them.

“I wish everyone at my school would hear each other out and see how other people see the world.”

Our Youth Justice & Prevention participants who attend the restorative justice summer training program with YWCA Madison learn about consensus building, consent, values, and more. Youth leave with a better understanding of circle-keeping practices and conflict resolution—skills that can serve them well now and well into the future.

As the school year comes to a close, Dane County Youth Justice & Prevention is gearing up its summer programing efforts that support youth success and diversion from the legal system—with programs primarily emphasizing restorative justice, employment readiness, and personal development. For instance, through our partnership with YWCA Madison, we’re able to offer summer restorative justice training for youth between the ages of 13 and 16. The restorative justice trainings focus on the foundation and spiritual elements of circle justice. Participants go over the definition of restorative justice, consensus building, consent, values, and more. Youth leave with a better understanding of circle-keeping practices and conflict resolution.
