We’re grateful for talented volunteers! Three National History Club students, Piper, Reagan, and Grace, helped paint a special mural above the museum’s front door. Thanks to the incredible work and guidance of local artist, Angie Christiansen, for making this project possible!

Excited yet? The anxious public and the staff of the South Dakota State Historical Society is!

In just over a month, nearly half of the South Dakota State Museum gallery will open to the public in time for the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The Grand Opening event is slated for July 1st at 4 p.m. with a centering prayer by Francis Whitebird and remarks by distinguished guests. The prelude to the event will feature music from Pierre Music/Riverbank Music Academy students beginning at 3 p.m. During that hour, members of the Society will get a sneak peek at the new exhibit. If you do not have a membership, now is a great time to buy one to become part of the exclusive preview crowd.

We're looking for donations of porcelain tea cups and saucers. If you have any you'd like to donate, we'll be using them for a program in the fall. Please note: The cups and saucers will not be returned and will not be accessioned as part of the museum collection.
Tea cups and saucers can be dropped off at the museum any week day, 10:00-2:00. Thank you!!

Next Tuesday the students in our Lake County National History Club are hosting Charles Gemar, retired NASA astronaut and fellow South Dakotan. You don't want to miss his presentation! The event is free, and doors open at 6:30pm. Hope to see you there!
