The Wisconsin National Guard comprises nearly 10,000 fully capable Citizen-Soldiers and Airmen prepared to deploy anywhere, at any time, to support community, state and federal missions. Our federal mission is to provide trained units, Soldiers and Airmen to support our nation’s defense priorities both in the United States and around the world as directed by the president of the United States of A

merica. Our community and state mission is to assist civil authorities protect life and property, as well as preserve peace, order and public safety during emergencies, as directed by the governor of the state of Wisconsin. We are small business owners, teachers, nurses, electricians, plumbers, college students, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, and more. We train and work to be Always Ready, Always There, ready to step in and help wherever needed. And we do this at a significant value for American taxpayers. Although we make up 20% of the U.S. Joint Force capability, we require only 4% of the defense budget. Additionally, we use our mission readiness and capabilities to give back to our local communities. Last month, the 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB) hosted a Change of Responsibility ceremony in which Command Sgt. Maj. Terri Vollrath relinquished responsibility of the brigade to Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Johnson! 🙌

Vollrath served as the Iron Brigade’s senior noncommissioned officer for nearly two years, and recently took responsibility of the 64th Troop Command.

The Wisconsin Army National Guard Marksmanship Team brought home the gold at the Marksmanship Advisory Council Region IV (MAC IV) match earlier this year! 🥇

As a team, they won first place overall! They also won several other categories as individuals, with Sgt. 1st Class Brandon Swanson earning 1st place overall individual champion and 3rd place in rifle, Staff Sgt. Jameson Nelms as 2nd overall individual and 1st place rifle champion, and Sgt. Kevin Meyer with 2nd place in rifle.

There will be an increase in flight activity over central Wisconsin June 1st - 12th due to the 2026 Sentry North exercise at Volk Field ANGB. F-35s, F-16s, and other military aircraft are scheduled to train between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day.

Aircraft flying above 30,000 ft. are authorized by the FAA to operate at supersonic speeds within the Volk Military Operating Area, which may be audible at ground level.
