It’s Fire Prevention Week! 🔥

This year’s focus is on battery safety — especially the powerful lithium-ion batteries found in e-bikes, electric scooters, phones, laptops, and more.

➡️ Battery & Charger Safety Tips:
✅ Only use chargers made for your specific device, especially for e-bikes and electric scooters.
✅ Never charge e-bikes or scooters indoors — always charge outside in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from anything flammable.
✅ Never leave batteries charging unattended or overnight.
✅ Charge on a hard, flat surface — not on beds, couches, or near curtains.
✅ Stop using batteries that are damaged, swollen, overheating, or leaking.
✅ Keep charging devices away from doorways or exits.
✅ Recycle used or damaged batteries safely — never throw them in the trash!

What to Do If an E-Bike or Scooter Battery Catches Fire:

Do NOT try to put it out with water.
Get out of the area immediately and call 911 or your local emergency number.
Wait for firefighters to arrive — lithium battery fires can reignite even after being put out.
If it’s safe, warn others and help them evacuate.
Battery fires happen fast — but with the right precautions, they can be prevented.
Charge smart. Stay safe. Protect your home.

For the past 19 years, the Madison Fire Department has hosted Fill the Boot for Burns. An incredible non profit that was founded for the purpose of establishing a local burn treatment facility; providing recovery programs for burn survivors; promoting fire and burn prevention through public education; funding education for medical burn team professionals, firefighters, and burn survivors; and supporting burn treatment and rehabilitation research.
This past weekend we were out again with help from Yocha Dehe Fire Department, Esparto Volunteer Firefighters Association and CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit, raising $30,592 all because of the generous donations our communities and passerby’s made. We appreciate your continued support to the Firefighters Burn Institute. We’ll see you next year for year 20!
