Joy. Community. Collective liberation. ❤️💚🖤

This past weekend, YWCA Madison joined the Juneteenth Parade in celebration of Black freedom and the generations of racial justice visionaries, freedom fighters, and abolitionists whose legacy continues to guide our mission. We are grateful for the opportunity to stand in solidarity with our neighbors, honoring the past while casting bold visions for the liberated future we are building.

Shoutout to Kujichagulia-Madison Center for Self Determination for stewarding this important tradition for over 37 years and bringing our community together in remembrance of those who committed their lives to freedom.

That’s right. Echoing the leadership of Carmella Glenn, City of Madison Common Council Vice President, demanding
actions not words from Madison Police Department in response to findings from the independent monitor confirming the muder of Richard Lee Johson due to excessive use of force and failure to provide aid by police officers.

Our gratitude to Police Civilian Oversight Board members for their critical work for police accountability in our community, including Maia Pearson and our very own Katey Nelson.
