🩵 June is PTSD Awareness Month 🩵

At Monrovia Volunteer Fire & Rescue, June serves as an important reminder that mental health matters especially for those who answer the call when others are experiencing some of the worst moments of their lives.

Our Firefighter and EMTs respond to routine calls as well as severe emergencies, traumatic accidents, critical medical calls, and other incidents that can leave lasting emotional impacts. While first responders are trained to handle these situations professionally, the effects of repeated exposure to trauma can take a significant toll on mental health.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects many first responders across the nation. Bringing awareness to PTSD and other mental health challenges helps reduce stigma and encourages those who may be struggling to seek support.

At Monrovia Volunteer Fire & Rescue, we are committed to supporting the wellness of our members both on and off the emergency scene with our Crisis Team. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and no one should have to face these challenges alone.

This month, we encourage our community to learn more about PTSD and help break the stigma of mental health. Support those who need help.

If you or someone you know is struggling, remember: seeking help is a sign of strength. It’s ok to not be ok.

No injuries to report from the fire.

During Emergency Medical Services Week, we would like to take a moment to recognize and thank the dedicated EMS providers of Monrovia Volunteer Fire Rescue for their commitment to serving our community.

Monrovia Volunteer Fire Rescue is proud to have 41 active EMS members who carry certifications as EMTs, Advanced EMTs, and Paramedics. These members dedicate countless hours to training, continuing education, emergency response, and patient care, all while balancing careers, school, and family life outside of the department.

EMS providers are often there during some of the most difficult and emotional moments in a person’s life. Whether responding to medical emergencies, traumatic accidents, cardiac arrests, falls, or assisting those simply in need of comfort and reassurance, our members continually answer the call with professionalism, compassion, and skill.

With nearly 67% of our department’s annual call volume being EMS-related, emergency medical services play a critical role in the mission of Monrovia Volunteer Fire Rescue. Our members are trained medical professionals willing to step forward and serve their neighbors at any hour of the day or night.

Many times, Monrovia responders arrive on scene before ambulance transport units and immediately begin providing patient care and life-saving interventions if needed. From CPR and airway management to bleeding control, and emergency medical treatment, these first few moments can make all the difference in a patient’s outcome.

Our department works closely alongside Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. (HEMSI) to ensure the highest level of patient care possible for the citizens we serve. The teamwork and coordination between our volunteer responders and HEMSI crews allow patients to receive rapid treatment, continuity of care, and professional medical attention from the moment help arrives.

To all of our EMS providers thank you for your sacrifice, your compassion, and your continued dedication to protecting the Monrovia community. Your commitment to helping others does not go unnoticed.

Happy EMS Week to all EMS professionals. Thank you for answering the call and making a difference in the lives of so many.

Today, Monrovia Volunteer Fire Rescue is conducting live burn training on Melody Circle, providing our firefighters with valuable hands-on experience in realistic fireground conditions.

Live burn scenarios are one of the most important types of training we can conduct. These controlled burns allow our members to sharpen critical skills such as fire attack, search and rescue, ventilation, hose advancement, communication, and incident command all while operating in real heat, smoke, and changing fire conditions.

Training like this helps prepare our firefighters to respond safely, effectively, and efficiently when real emergencies happen in our community. We are committed to continuing to train at a high level to better serve and protect the citizens of Monrovia.

Residents may notice smoke plumes visible from a distance during training operations; however, all appropriate safety precautions and monitoring measures are being taken throughout the exercise.

We appreciate the support of our community as we continue training for the real thing.
