Most people don’t grow up knowing how the criminal justice system works.

For crime victims, navigating the justice process is usually something they never expected to do. It can feel unfamiliar and overwhelming, and they might be full of questions.

Access to clear, timely information regarding their cases, as well as the system as a whole, can help victims better understand and navigate this difficult process with greater confidence.

“When victims understand their rights from the very beginning, they feel more supported and respected as their cases move forward. These rights recognize that victims are not bystanders. They are directly affected by crime, and their voices deserve to be part of the system that responds to it.”

一 Clark County Sheriff Kerry Kirn

Thank you to Sheriff Kirn for highlighting the importance of helping victims understand their rights and that their voices must be part of the justice process.

Small things can make a meaningful difference.

Sometimes it’s getting an update on a case. Sometimes it’s understanding the next step in the justice process. Sometimes it’s simply having the chance to ask questions and to be heard.

For someone navigating the justice system after experiencing a crime, these moments matter. Ensuring victims are informed, respected, and protected throughout the process is an important part of protecting victims’ rights.
