Spring is in the air, and kids are starting to play outside.
Could the kids be exposed to lead in the dirt?

Protect young children from possible lead exposure in soil by:
• ensuring children do not eat soil or put soil into their mouths
• removing shoes in the house to limit soil from being brought in
• limit exposure to bare soil - use sandboxes (and cover when not in use)
• cover bare soil with grass or mulch
• testing the soil to determine if it is safe

For more information on lead exposure: https://www.cdc.gov/lead-prevention/about/index.html

UGA Cooperative Extension provides cost-effective soil testing (https://aesl.ces.uga.edu/soil.html) that includes testing for lead.
Contact your county extension office for more information.

It's Healthy & Safe Swimming Week! May 18-24, 2026

As the weather warms up, and kids finish school for the summer, protect yourself and your family from germs in recreational water sources.

Pools, hot tubs, and water playgrounds (such as splash pads) with proper treatment levels are less likely to spread germs. Injuries and drownings are less likely when trained staff and adequate safety equipment are present. For more: https://www.cdc.gov/healthy-swimming/

Did you know? Public pools and other water play areas are inspected? You can check the latest inspection online: https://ga.healthinspections.us/stateofgeorgia/
