The park includes Clifty Inn, which is perched on a hilltop overlooking the Ohio River and historic Madison. The park’s waterfalls change moods with the weather and the seasons and can range from roaring plunges to delicate bridal-veil mists to gleaming frozen titans. Winter and spring visits reveal them at their best. The rugged splendor of Clifty Canyon offers exciting year-round hiking and scenery, and the inn offers comfortable rooms, great food and conference facilities. 10 a.m. Women's Hiking Group Meet-Up: 1-hour moderate hike.
2 p.m. It's a bird, It's a plane, It's a...Squirrel: Explore the lives of our nocturnal flying squirrels and make a fun craft.

We would like to thank our amazing volunteers that helped us keep everything operating over Labor Day weekend. Friends Group members helped staff the slide at the pool and our campground hosts cleaned and re-stocked the campground restrooms and helped cover some unexpected staff vacancies at our gatehouses. September is Colorblind Awareness month. At Lookout Point we have two viewers specially adapted with EnChroma® lens technology for color blindness that were installed in 2024. These were made possible by a partnership with the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation, the Friends of Clifty Falls State Park, and a generous donation by the Emma L. Snyder Charitable Foundation. For those who are not colorblind, you will see more vibrant colors, and a magnified view of the falls. Check them out this fall and enjoy the leaves as they change color! It's Vulture Awareness Day! Vultures are part of nature's clean-up crew! If you have stayed at Clifty Inn, you have likely seen both black vultures and turkey vultures circling around and flying over the Ohio River. Vultures circling around in the air is known as a "kettle." Circling vultures do not necessarily indicate the presence of a dead animal, but it's often something they do when gaining altitude for long flights to search for food. It's Waterfall Wednesday and due to the lack of recent rainfall, the waterfalls do not have much flow right now. However, that means it would be a good time to hike Trail 2 and search for fossils in the creek bed! Just remember to leave the fossils you find for others to enjoy. On Friday, September 4 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. our south gate entrance will only be accessible to those coming from downtown Madison. The City of Madison will be closing Clifty Hollow Road to do tree trimming and mowing work from Thomas Hill Road to the south entrance. This is a short, temporary closure, but we wanted to make sure our guests were aware. on.IN.gov/cliftyfalls
