We ask that you keep all those affected by this severe weather event, as well as the first responders working tirelessly to protect lives and property, in your thoughts and prayers. Our hearts are with the communities facing these challenges, and we remain committed to providing assistance wherever it is needed.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Conner Griffin on successfully completing the eleven-week Southern Regional Public Safety Institute (SRPSI) Academy at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. This accomplishment is a testament to his dedication, discipline, and unwavering commitment to serving our community. We look forward to the positive impact he will make while serving the City of Madison.

Officer Griffin won several awards during his time in the academy to include: Top Academic Award, Top Fi****ms Award, and Distinguished Graduate Award for achieving a 90 or above on all graded categories.

UPDATE (1:20 a.m. on June 9th): Cortavious and Cortavion have been located and arrested with no further incident.

🚨🚨BLUE ALERT: 18-year-old Cortavious Lawayne Hobbs and 19-year-old Cortavion Dewayne Hobbs are wanted in connection to an officer-involved shooting that occurred June 8th, 2026 at approximately 3:38 p.m. in Mount Olive, Mississippi.

Both are believed to be armed and dangerous and could be in the area of the 200 block of South Bluff Street, Mount Olive, Covington County Mississippi.

Please call 911 immediately if you see either Hobbs or if you observe any suspicious activity.

Cortavious Lawayne Hobbs is described as a black male, wearing a black hoodie, 18 years old, 5 feet and 6 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

Cortavion Dewayne Hobbs is described as a black male, wearing a camouflage hoodie, 19 years old, 5 feet and 6 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF AND SIMPLE ASSAULT BY THREAT ARREST

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, at approximately 2:35 p.m., officers with the Madison Police Department responded to Taco Bell, located at 1853 Main Street in Madison, regarding a disturbance involving a delivery driver.

Upon arrival, officers determined that a white male, later identified as John Michael Beall, became upset after attempting to pick up a delivery order that was not yet ready. During the incident, Beall became irate, damaged a cash register inside the restaurant, and threw it at an employee.

Beall then exited the business and attempted to leave the area in his vehicle. Officers made contact with him in the restaurant parking lot and took him into custody without incident.

Beall was charged with Misdemeanor Malicious Mischief and Simple Assault by Threat. He was later released on bond. This case will be presented before the Madison Municipal Court.

The Madison Police Department is excited to host the USPCA Region 26 PD1 Certification Trials in Madison, Mississippi, October 26–30, 2026!

This week-long event will bring together K-9 teams from across the region for training, certification, and professional development. In addition to the PD1 Certification Trials, make-up certifications will be available for Street Scenario, Narcotics Detection, and Explosive Detection.

We are proud to partner with USPCA Region 26 and look forward to welcoming handlers and K-9 teams back to Madison for another outstanding event.

The Madison Police Department extends our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to Deputy Decell, his family, and all of our brothers and sisters at the Rankin County Sheriff's Office as they mourn the loss of K-9 Deputy Fox.
