October 4-10, 2026 is National 4-H Week! 🍀

A big thank you to Dane County Supervisor Sarah Smith for helping write the resolution recognizing National 4-H Week, and to DeForest Handy Helpers 4-H member, Olivia, for speaking before the Dane County Board last week. Olivia shared how 4-H has positively impacted her life and highlighted the importance of 4-H as a youth leadership program that helps young people gain confidence, build skills, and make a difference in their communities.

Celebrate National 4-H Week by wearing green, telling someone about 4-H, inviting a friend to a 4-H event or meeting, or helping with a community service activity!

How tall can you build it? Our Dane County 4-H youth put their engineering skills to the test on Sunday, working together to create LEGO towers that could withstand strong "winds" from a hair dryer and hold lots of weight! A big thank you to our youth leaders and adult volunteers who helped design and lead this awesome hands-on challenge.

The next county-wide Dane County 4-H LEGO Project Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 21 at 2:00pm.

If you like LEGO building, you can lead a 4-H LEGO meeting with your club members! This is a fun way to learn from each other and have fun working with LEGO bricks.

Join us for 4‑H Cloverbud 🍀 Learn to Fish Day! 🐟 4-H Ambassadors and Dane County Park staff will teach us real life fishing skills near Fish Hatchery Road at Jenni & Kyle Preserve which is handicapped accessible.

This event is open to youth (K-2nd) as well as their family and friends. Please register your siblings and any friend(s) that wish to come too! A parent, guardian, or other adult must stay with participants throughout the even (NOTE: Adults do not need to register). Space is limited to 25 participants, and a waiting list is available. Registration includes a snack and all activity supplies.

Have you ever wondered how to tell one tree from another or what secrets are hidden in the leaves above your head? Join us for an outdoor adventure in the teaching gardens surrounding the 4-H Office as we become nature detectives for the day!

During this hands-on program, youth will learn how to identify common trees using clues such as leaves, bark, seeds, and growth patterns. We’ll explore the gardens and investigate tree characteristics. Along the way, participants will take part in interactive leaf and tree-themed activities.
