The South Dakota Legislature has approved Senate Concurrent Resolution 607 (SCR 607), expressing unified support for federal authorization and partnership on major rural and regional water supply projects across the state.

With final concurrence by the House, the 101st Legislature has sent a clear message: long-term water security is essential to South Dakota’s public health, economic development, agriculture, and quality of life.

SCR 607 supports key regional projects identified by the South Dakota Association of Rural Water Systems, including Dakota Mainstem Regional Water System, Western Dakota Regional Water System, Water Investment in Northern South Dakota (WINS), and feasibility work for a second expansion of the Lewis and Clark Regional Water System.

Statewide legislative alignment strengthens South Dakota’s position as we work with our congressional delegation and federal partners toward authorization, feasibility studies, and future investment in resilient water infrastructure.

Thank you to the legislators, partners, and stakeholders who continue to support responsible, long-term regional water planning for our state.
