At approximately 10:30, the Madison Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Third Street West in Madison.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions from the structure. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack and worked to contain the blaze and prevent further spread. The residence was confirmed to be unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries have been reported.

During firefighting operations, crews once again encountered low water pressure issues in the West Madison area. This has been a chronic ongoing issue that continues to create operational challenges during emergency incidents and impacts firefighting capabilities in that section of town.

The incident has been turned over to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.

We would also like to thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance on scene:

* Danville Fire Department
* Van Fire Department
* Spruce River Fire Department
* Morrisvale Fire Department
* Racine Fire Department

We would also like to thank the City of Madison Police Department and City of Madison Emergency Management for their assistance and support during the incident.

Their assistance and teamwork are greatly appreciated as crews worked under difficult conditions to bring the fire under control.

01/27/2026

Update on the fire at 2nd Ave C (former ice plant): Due to the extent of structural damage, demolition of the building will begin today. The area will remain active with crews and equipment, and the public is asked to avoid the site for safety reasons.
