Canal Bridge Closure Alert
The Chain of Rocks Canal Bridge in Illinois is closed for construction, so there is no access to Old Chain of Rocks Bridge from the Illinois side from June 22, 2026, through early October 2026! Barricades are in place to stop all traffic from crossing the Canal Bridge during repairs. Do not cross the barricades; this is a chargeable offense. The barricades are in place for a reason. Do not walk, ride, or drive across the mesh deck. Patrols will be stepped up in and around the island; those violating traffic control devices will be prosecuted.

It is that time of year again, with some changes.....Madison First Responders Youth Camp. This year, we are collaborating with the Madison Fire Department! It is free and open to students in the Madison School District, ages 10-16. Applications can be picked up at either the Madison Police Department or the City of Madison, Illinois, city hall. The deadline is July 10th!

There have been questions posted to our previous post regarding our Announcement for Hiring. Our department will be accepting applications until 4:00 PM on Friday, April 10th, 2026. The following Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 6:00 PM, testing will take place in the training room of the Fire Department. All information is posted in the flyer. We are looking forward to seeing who will be joining our department.

We all know that community outreach and education has never been more important than it is currently here at the Madison Police Department. We operate with the highest degree of honesty, professionalism, and integrity in all that we do--with each other, with our community, and with our fellow law enforcement agencies.

The representative pictured below is Keith May with Law Publications, and they will be in our community, going from business to business to get sponsorships for our community safety program.

This program provides awareness information and materials to school-age children and senior citizens, warning them about various risks and dangers associated with drugs and keeping them informed on other important safety topics.
