We had a great evening hosting National Night Out!

Thank you to everyone who came out to visit, grab some food, enjoy the splash zone, and spend the evening with us. We appreciate the opportunity to get to know the people we serve outside of our usual calls and day-to-day interactions.

Another busy week of Regatta and July 4th festivities has come and gone, and we'd like to take a moment to thank the local businesses that generously donated food and drinks to our department.

A special thank you to Shipley's, Walmart, Red Pepper Deli, Red Pepperoni, Culver's, Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Wendy's, and Boonies Water for your generosity and support.

We'd also like to thank the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police for providing extra patrols throughout the festivities.

We are incredibly grateful for the support our community shows us, especially during some of the busiest times of the year. Thank you to all!

Happy Fourth of July from the Madison Police Department!

As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, we encourage everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly. If you're heading out to enjoy fireworks, family gatherings, or other holiday festivities, please be mindful of your surroundings, obey traffic laws, designate a sober driver if needed, and look out for one another.

Three arrested on drug and gun charges

In mid-June 2026, Madison Police Department (MPD) Detective J.D. Sweet began an investigation into a residence located in the 300 block of Fairmount Drive after receiving complaints of suspicious activity. As a culmination of investigation, Detective Sweet sought a search warrant for the aforementioned residence, which was reviewed and granted by the Honorable D.J. Mote of the Jefferson Circuit Court. Due to information received during the investigation and potential dangers inside of the residence, the Indiana State Police (ISP) Swat Team was utilized to execute the search warrant.

When the ISP Swat Team arrived, they began calling out any individuals who were inside of the residence. Jerry C. Diaz, 52, of Madison, exited the residence and was taken into custody. When no other individuals exited the residence, ISP Swat made entry inside, where officers located Marcelino Rodriguez, 49, Fort Wayne, barricaded inside of a bedroom. Rodriguez refused commands to exit the bedroom and was apprehended by an ISP Swat K-9. After the residence was cleared, Zaid I. Diaz, 18, Madison, arrived home and was detained by officers.

During a search of the residence, officers located multiple fi****ms, narcotics, and narcotic related paraphernalia. It was discovered that one of the fi****ms located during the search had previously been stolen out of Jennings County, Indiana. Detective Sweet was assisted in his investigation by MPD Captain Wayne Phillips, MPD Sgt. Jordan Perry, MPD Sr. Patrolman Kayla Moore, MPD Patrolman Jeremiah Douglas, MPD Patrolman Colton Fox and MPD Det/Major Ricky Harris.

Criminal charges are merely accusations and Jerry C. Diaz, Marcelino Rodriguez and Zaid I. Diaz have the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law.

As we gear up for the exciting week ahead, please be aware that we'll see increased crowds and traffic throughout the week, especially in the downtown area.

Main Street and the surrounding areas will experience closures throughout the week and weekend, including Friday evening for the Hometown USA Parade, which will take place along Main Street from Jefferson Street to Cragmont Street (details below).
