The Georgia Safari crew enjoyed a sweet end to summer thanks to the kindness of our friends at Crows Nest Produce! 🍉

Crows Nest Produce was generous to share delicious, juicy watermelon for our ambassador, barn, and pasture animals to munch on as we begin to say goodbye to the summer season. We appreciate their care and thoughtfulness in providing such a fun (and messy) enrichment activity for our crew.

From the entire Georgia Safari team, thank you, Crows Nest Produce! 🧡

We're wrapping up our Antelope Month Spotlights by recognizing our Common Eland, Nile Lechwe, and Nilgai! All of these animals encompass unique features and face a variety of challenges around the world. The one common thread they have? They all deserve to live in a world free from the threat of extinction.

Every month can be Antelope Month when we work together to protect wildlife. One way to get involved locally is through The Georgia Zoological Society - explore the different ways you can help at the link: https://bit.ly/44R6SH3

Today is Scimitar-horned Oryx Day! A large, pale antelope originally from South Africa, the Scimitar-horned Oryx was declared extinct in the wild in 2000. Thanks to successful reintroduction efforts, the Scimitar-horned Oryx is now considered Endangered by the IUCN - proving that when we work together, real change happens.

The Scimitar-horned Oryx loves to stay calm and cool during the thick of the summer! Although they have developed remarkable heat management abilities to survive their native desert heat, Scimitar-horned Oryx prefer to seek out shady spots and scrapes in dirt or sand to avoid winds. Oftentimes, you can find them grazing at night.

Did you know that Scimitar-horned Oryx also inspired the legend of the unicorn? ✨ We think that makes them pretty magical!

Explore more about the Scimitar-horned Oryx at the link, and snap a photo of any magical Oryx you may spot on your next Safari adventure: https://s.si.edu/4hifTQB

It's World Lizard Day, and the spotlight is on our Argentine Black & White Tegu, Moe, and our Central Bearded Dragon, Ryuu! Here are a couple fun facts you can share with your friends to celebrate these incredible reptiles:

🦎 Did you know Argentine Black & White Tegus are one of the few partially warm-blooded lizards? They can reach a temperature up to 10 degrees higher than the ambient temperature at nighttime!

🦎 Central Bearded Dragons get their name from their "beard" on their throat. Do you think bearded dragons look like they have actual beards?

Do you have a favorite type of lizard? We'd love to know! Share the name of your favorite lizard in the comments so we can raise awareness of all our friends with scales and tails! 🙌
